Top trends at Amazon India Fashion Week A/W 16: Day 4

Day 4 at the Amazon India Fashion Week A/W 16 was marked by narratives, traditions, breaking free and uniformity at a variety of levels. Some chose elegance while some were firm at experimenting. Some contemporised tradition while some traditionalised the contemporary.

Modern tailoring and style sentiments brought magic to the textiles and accessories. Varied colour palletes and inspiring tales, dramatic layering, unusual silhouettes, carefree spirit, vintage tonality and mild quirk captured the day.

Some trends that stood out on Day 4 of the Amazon India Fashion Week AW 16 were:

1. Ikai by Ragini Ahuja’s take on casual, luxe, relaxed, yet refined sillhouettes, bringing casual and everyday wear together was something new. Boxy dresses, maxi jackets, sculpted leather applique skirts in the tones of brown, charcoal and black also drew inspiration from autumn leaves and animal figures. The fringed leather bralets, bright berets and black stockings embraced the wintery tinge. Right and perfect from the notebook.

2. Ilk’s "Dot on a Walk" collection celebrated the age-old technique of Pointillism, a concept derived from the Art Movement, using dots in various colours forming a variety of other structures and figures. Rib paneling settling on cukoon coats and saris, floral embroideries, apron-inspired silhouettes, world map embroideries using beads to create illusions of pixelation of the drapes. Choice of colours as blackish blue and tomato red were right on point.

3. Bodice focused at reinvention of classics through modern tailoring and India’s indigenous fabrics. Bringing tradition with innovation, Ruchika Sachdeva’s long oversized shirts, tunics paired with beautiful light wool scarves, waist pleats in heavy wool dresses, wood and metal accessories added a depth to the collection without depriving it of innocence.

4. Eka brought back the fancy and classic polka dots in action. With the warmth of winter colours, the checkered dresses, the plain structures, the easy stoles, the uneven layering, Rina Singh went a notch up with her brand’s identity that lies in its ease and being contemporary.

5. Love Birds had every winter lover’s wishlist in mind. The warm and rich colours, the laidback tailoring, the gorgeous robe coats and dresses, and minimalism wrote a new tale altogether and the styling of looks were inspiring.

6. Anavila was a pleasant surprise with the element of pleating not being limited to just the saris and accessorising the saris with light jackets, floral underskirts and also, the bell sleeves were back. Versatile and charming. The knit tops, the embroidered cardigans had a longing for early winter. New styles were spotted in drapes and it definitely hit the nostalgia button.

7. Ashima Leena revisited the grandeur of the Persian lanes. The pouring silhouettes, jewellery inspired motifs and playful tassels on grey, navy, mustard, wine and rust brought back the Persian charm on the ramp.

8. School was in session for Pero. Going back to the classroom as it was, the gingham checks, merino wool jumpsuits, embroidery on khadi tops and other recycled fabrics and jackets were just classic Pero style, yet had a newness to it. Start filing the winter wardrobe already!

9. Namrata Joshipura’s collection was glamorous and global. Waistcut dresses and sequin patterns, chic metallic jumpsuits, fringe, headphones as accessories complemented the theme of her collection quite well. Young, edgy and stylish.
