1. BHANGARH FORT
Location: Rajasthan
Bhangarh fort in Rajasthan is at the top of the list every time you go searching for a haunted place in India. Its reputation is such that the Archeological Survey of India has prohibited tourists from visiting the fort after sundown.
The story of the fort dates back to the 16th century. A tantric called Singhia fell in love with the princess of Bhangarh, Ratnavati. He tried to seduce her using his magic prowess, but the Princess found out about his plans and sentenced him to death. Before his death, the enraged tantric cursed the whole village to doom. Now, people believe that whoever enters the fort after dark won't make it back safely.
A friend who visited the fort and doesn't believe in the supernatural told me that when she visited the place there was an eery feeling that had surrounded them. And while they were returning, their car met with a small accident. Fortunately, no one was hurt. She also pondered whether the eery feeling was due to the reputation of the fort preceding their visit.
The destination has been a go-to location for many ghost-busting teams, TV crews, etc. over the years. Several teams have filmed having stayed the night at the fort. It is unknown whether the haunting of the place is true or not, but it does amount for a really good story.
