Exclusive: Top looks for summer 2015 revealed

The fringe

Experts have all agreed that the fringe is the hottest look of this year. While some have pointed out that it has always been around, fashion writers are unanimously of the view that never before has the look captured public imagination in this way, with more and more fringe fanatics outing themselves to drive the trend mainstream.

The classic fringe is termed "the lunatic fringe", but the new look has variations.

  • Blunt bangs: This is basically the art of being blunt in a crude and politically incorrect way in order to bring a refreshing and unapologetic honesty to old fashioned bigotry. Tacky tassels such as love jihad and the politicising of sexual crimes are among the top preferred detailing of this hot new very right now trend.
  • Peek-a-boo fringe: All about the art of now-you-see-it-now-you-don't fashion, where the fringe is softened in a manner that it only reveals itself sometimes, depending on the angle. A much sought after for neutrals. Goes well with western and Indian wear.
  • Side fringe: a very direct, radical cut, depending on whether it is a left fringe or right fringe that you choose.

"We are very very excited about his new chaoticism on our runways," says a top designer. "After a long long time, insanity is in." On condition of anonymity, he adds: "The only thing members of the fraternity are currently disputing is the term - if it's fringe, how can it be mainstream, and if it's mainstream, how can it be fringe." A high level meeting has been called to decide if the name of the trend should be changed to "fringestream".

Clashing motifs

Putting diverse motifs such as a palm and a lotus together in order to make them clash is the new cool. Everyone looks for an opportunity to do it. You can try it on dresses, T-shirts, salwar kameez, and even Satya Paul sarees. A big hit with media persons."We like it because it's just so delightfully noisy," says a top anchor, who has been seen wearing the clashing motifs on his tie during prime time.

Persecution complex rucksack

This season is being termed the arrival of the victim-chic look. From majoritarian victimhood to minority complexes and knee-jerk insecurity, all of it can fit into and be carried around in one chic oversized rucksack in bright neon colours to be worn on the back, giving the chic effect of being weighed down in a new fashion look of overburdened-glam. "The good thing about this trend is that while the rucksacks look heavy, they are actually lightweight, the heaviness is just light stuffing to enhance the victim-chic effect. So while it adds a whole new fashion statement to current fashions, it is not actually bad for the back, like say, high heels which are known to have negative health benefits," says a fashion watcher approvingly.

Tokenism charms

The hottest unisex accessory to own this spring summer is the charm bracelet, with eye catching pendants and trinkets symbolising popular tokens as a nod to high style lip service and vote banks.

Various symbols of astronomy, geography, historical figures and mythology and nature such as the holy cow, the North Pole, South Pole, chanda mama, U-turns, Bhagat Singh, Nathuram Godse and Gandhi, etc, can be combined to create unique and personalised charms set in gemstones for the classic look or the cheaper but trendier zerkon for funky liberals, and street styles for assorted anarchists.

A top charm maker confirms that he has got an order from a well known businessman to create a "jumla bracelet" but the charm-maker has agreed on the condition that the money will be delivered in his bank before he hands over the bracelet.

Layering

It's not enough to say an outrageous, controversial thing once. That's just outdated. To really create an impact the trick is to layer it over again and again for emphasis and to achieve the desired effect. Nationalist organisations are particularly fond of this fashion style.

After stone-wash and acid-wash, brainwash technique in the pipeline

A garment manufacturer says nationalists have also approached him for the creation of a new style of wash, like acid wash and stone wash, called "brainwash". "As per their request we are working on brainwash fabric, but it is unlikely we will be able to invent it any time soon."
