Padmavati, Padmaavat, or whatever new names for the movie the CBFC comes up with to appease the outraged Rajput mobs, one thing that we can all agree upon is that the whole controversy has been blown out of proportion. Writer, actor, lyricist and stand-up comic Varun Grover, in a hilarious new set, retells the story of “Padmaavat”, written by the 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi, which revolves around an oppressive ruler, his beautiful daughter, a WhatsApp-like pet parrot and a bunch of testosterone-fuelled rulers fighting among each other to claim the princess.
