Night curfews are back in the country. With increasing Omicron cases in Delhi, the state government has implemented night curfews starting today. The curfew will be in effect from 11 pm to 5 am. Not just Delhi, other states including Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, 8 cities of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Assam (not applicable on December 31) have also implemented night curfews. We know this announcement might have made you cancel your New Year’s plans.
BUT WHY NIGHT CURFEW?
Night curfews have been implemented to control the spread of Covid-19. It will help avoid public gatherings at night, especially during New Year’s Eve. But what about Covid-19 spread during the day? Night curfews might not be the perfect solution because of the simple reason: Covid-19 can catch you during the day as well.
You might have come across videos and pictures of public gatherings during the day. For instance, in this recent viral video from Sarojini Nagar market, Delhi, you can see hundreds of people falling on each other while it's clearly day (and not night).
