Everyone says I love Modi

Narendra Modi

Everyone is talking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi so it makes perfect sense to talk about Modi as well. But let us go a bit off-track and talk about things which are not that well known about the man. For one, have you ever wondered what Modi might mean in Norse?

In Norse, Modi refers to the son of Thor, the hammer wielding god of thunder, lightning, storms and oak trees. How appropriate for someone who wants to be known as the man of steel. In modern day Scandinavia you might find aspiring WWE strongmen, with 56-inch chests, taking on the name of Modi. But that is just an assumption as I have never been to Scandinavia and I wouldn't know Modi from Thor even if I went. But it would be interesting to see how the Nordic people greet our Modi bhai when he goes there... and he most certainly will go because when I last checked Scandinavia was a part of the world. And every child knows that Modi bhai is out to woo the world (doubters can ask that kid in Japan whose ears got pulled.)

Everyone is saying that Modi went to woo Japan, but do you know that you can't "woo" in Japanese - there is no "wu" sound in their language. But to woo or not to wu, the consensus is that Modi bhai came back with a lot of cash-able Yen goodwill in the days to come.

With Modi safely back in India every half respectable scribe and non-pseudo-secular citizen of secular "Hindustan" is beaming in glee saying that after Brazil, Nepal and Bhutan, Modi bhai has conquered Japan. By Thor, how proud he makes everyone be. And to think that Modi achieved all of this single-handedly a mere 70 years after Japan last bombed India. Between 1942 and 1944 Japanese bombs irregularly fell on civilian districts of Calcutta. Old timers say that if you look under the grime of the big buildings in what used to be Dalhousie Square you may still come across the markings. Now Modi only has Pakistan to take care of, the other country that frequently fires at India.

Modi is a great man, no doubt about it. His dress sense, posture, speeches are a reflection of his greatness and the planned photo opportunities document his passage for posterity.

My personal favourite is the one that he published on his FB account on Teacher's day. In every one photo of 25 there is a confident Modi bhai sitting on a chair. Beside him sits the young HRD minister and behind them, just within the arc of his aura, stand some humble teachers of India, those who have been adjudged the best "Teachers of India for 2013". To Modi bhai's extreme right can be seen a teacher proud to be there, clutching his crutches, standing tall in his moment of glory. Modi bhai knows how to show respect to teachers, even his own wife became a teacher when Modi left her saying you should become self reliant.

Modi bhai is an astute manager of time and that is how he gets so much done in so short a time. A mere 100 days old PM and he set his mind to address the India of tomorrow. He spared no efforts in making it happen, all schools were told that he would speak, and they should get their children to listen. There has been so much interest in his enthusiasm that schools decided to hold examinations on what he spoke. Modi bhai, forever curious about the impact that he makes, had entire ministries and departments put into action seeking feedback from the school in set report card - how many children attended, what they thought and what not and more importantly who did not attend.

Give it to the man - Modi bhai has chutzpah; simple but straightforward in his thoughts and resolute in action, he wants India to love him. He loves the idea of India loving him and praying for him and voting for him... over and over and over again. He hates those anti-nationals who for some weird reason don't like him. They call him names like megalomaniac, fascist, ultra-nationalist, control freak and dictatorial... they even call him a politician. He must hate it; all he wants and ever wanted was to be Mr Prime Minister and now that he is why should people criticise him. It makes for common sense that if you know what's good for you let him be.
