Shubman Gill has clinched the title of the world's number-one ODI batter, dislodging Pakistani skipper Babar Azam. In the latest ICC ODI rankings released on Wednesday, November 8, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj, too reclaimed the top spot among ODI bowlers.
Gill, with 830 points under his belt, outshone Babar Azam, who is now in the second position with 824 points.
Gill on the top stop
Gill, who has had a patchy World Cup so far, has risen through the ranks and made a name for himself in international cricket.
Out of the 8 World Cup matches India has played so far, Gill has had two half-centuries in six matches, including the 92 against Sri Lanka on November 2.
In just 41 innings, he achieved the feat of becoming the world's number-one ODI batter, making him the second-fastest player to reach this milestone after MS Dhoni, who did so in 38 innings.
As Gill's rating points surged from 816 to 830, it became clear that his aggressive batting style and consistency throughout his brief career had propelled him to the top spot.
Babar Azam, who had proudly held the number one position for 950 days, witnessed a dip in his form of late, allowing Gill to seize the throne.
