According to the team's physio Bayjedul Islam Khan, Shakib suffered the injury early in his innings.
Shakib will now return to Dhaka, while the rest of the team will fly to Pune to play against Australia on November 11.
Bayjedul Islam stated, "Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supporting taping and painkillers.
He underwent an emergency X-Ray in Delhi after the game, which confirmed a fracture on the left PIP joint."
The estimated recovery time is three to four weeks, and he will start his rehabilitation immediately.
Shakib Al Hasan has also been in the spotlight for his involvement in a "Timed Out" dismissal during the World Cup 2023.
In his last World Cup match, he appealed for the "Timed Out" dismissal of Angelo Mathews, who took a few extra seconds to get off the mark.
While Shakib has defended his actions, stating that he was following the rules of the game, he has had several controversial moments in his career:
Angry at Ground Staff, 2010: Shakib threatened a ground staff member with a bat for moving in front of the sight screen during an ODI against New Zealand. The match referee gave him a warning, but no further action was taken.
Middle finger gesture, 2011: Shakib showed his middle finger to the crowd at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium during a match between Bangladesh and the West Indies.
Rude gesture, 2014: Shakib was banned for three ODIs and fined BDT 300,000 by the BCB for showing an inappropriate gesture on live television during an ODI against Sri Lanka.
Beating up a fan, 2014: Shakib beat a fan with his bat during a rain break in an ODI against India. The fan was reportedly harassing his wife, leading Shakib to leave the dressing room and confront the fan.
Abusing an Umpire, 2015: During a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match, Shakib passed verbal remarks against umpire Tanvir Ahmed, resulting in a one-match ban and a fine of BDT 20,000.
The ICC ban, 2019: Shakib was banned by the ICC for two years for failing to report contact with a bookie. He accepted three charges of breaching the ICC anti-corruption code and returned from the ban in 2021.
Throwing the stumps, 2021: During a domestic cricket match, Shakib got furious at the umpire and twice took out the stumps and banged them on the floor in front of the umpire, displaying his anger against the umpire for not considering their appeals.
Win or lose this game had good spirit and considered as gentlemen's game. And this is not the first time. Shame on you @Sah75official. - Shakib Al Hasan kicks stumps, later uproots and throws them https://t.co/qNNq4rs5ki#cricketnews #cricket #Bangladesh #bangladeshcricket

He later tendered an apology for his actions.
As Shakib's World Cup campaign comes to an end, there are speculations about his future as the team's captain. At 36 years old and with the Bangladesh team facing a challenging World Cup, Shakib's international career may be coming to a close in the near future.
