IPL 2023 Retention List: Who all are staying back with their teams

All the 10 IPL teams submitted their final list of retained players to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on November 15. Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson, Mumbai Indians player Kieron Pollard, Kolkata Knight Riders' Shivam Mavi, Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal were some of the big names being released by the franchises ahead of the mini-auction to be held in Kochi, Kerala on December 23.

Here is a teamwise list of all the retained players for IPL 2023:

1. Gujarat Titans: Gujarat Titans let go of six players including four overseas cricketers from the side. The defending champions now have Rs 19.75 crore in their purse after the retention.

  • Retained players: Shubman Gill, David Miller, Wriddhiman Saha, Matthew Wade, Abhinav Manohar, Sai Sudarshan, Hardik Pandya (C), Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Vijay Shankar, R Sai Kishore, Jayant Yadav, Mohammad Shami, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Noor Ahmad, Darshan Nalkande, Pradeep Sangwan.

2. Punjab Kings: Punjab Kings have released captain Mayank Agarwal after a disappointing last season, as the team finished sixth on the points table. Veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan will now be the new captain of the team. Punjab, after their retention, have Rs 32.2 crore in their purse with which it can get three overseas players.

  • Retained players: Shikhar Dhawan (C), Shahrukh Khan, Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jitesh Sharma, Raj Bawa, Rishi Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Atharva Taide, Arshdeep Singh, Baltej Singh, Nathan Ellis, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar.

3. Chennai Super Kings (CSK): The Chennai franchise has retained Ravindra Jadeja, who was the skipper of the team in the initial matches but had to leave the team due to an injury. Jadeja was also reportedly miffed with the team management over his treatment after the team kept losing games in the side. However, it was reported that on the insistence of MS Dhoni, the management has retained the all-rounder. 

CSK now has Rs 20.95 crore in their purse for the mini-auction.

  • Retained players: MS Dhoni (C), Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Subhranshu Senapati, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Dwaine Pretorious, Mitchell Santner,  Ravindra Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Chowdhury, Mateesha Pathirana, Simarjeet Singh, Deepak Chahar, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): The KKR management has released Pat Cummins, Ajinkya Rahane, Aaron Finch, Sam Billings, Sheldon Jackson and few more players from the squad. The team had a low season under skipper Shreyas Iyer and they finished seventh on the points table. After retentions, KKR has only Rs 7.25 crore in their purse.

  • Retained players: Shreyas Iyer (C), Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russel, Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, Anukul Roy and Rinku Singh.

5. Mumbai Indians: The four-time IPL champions had their worst season in 2022 as they finished at the bottom of the table, losing as many as 10 out of the 14 games they played. Ahead of the auctions, MI released its star player Kieron Pollard, pacer Jaydev Unadkat among big names. The franchise has Rs 20.55 crore in its purse as they go for auctions.

  • Retained players: Rohit Sharma (C), Tim David, Ramandeep Singh, Tilak Verma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, Jofra Archer, Jasprit Bumrah, Arjun Tendulkar, Arshad Khan, Kumar Kartikeya, Hrithik Shokeen, Jason Behrendorff, Akash Madhwal.

6. Lucknow Super Giants: Among noticeable names, the KL Rahul-led side has released players like Manish Pandey, Dushmant Chameera, Evin Lewis and Jason Holder. The Lucknow franchise has Rs 23.35 crore in its purse before the auctions. 

  • Retained players: KL Rahul (C), Ayush Badoni, Karan Sharma, Manan Vohra, Quinton De Kock, Marcus Stoinis, Krishnappa Gowtham, Deepak Hooda, Kyle Mayers, Krunal Pandya, Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, Mark Wood, Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi.

7. Rajasthan Royals: Rajasthan had a very good season in 2022 as they emerged a finalist after nearly 13 years. However, they were edged by Gujarat Titans in the finals. Among big names, Rajasthan has released Daryl Mitchell and Rassie van der Dussen. The team now has Rs 13.2 crore in its purse for the Kochi mini-auctions.

  • Retained players: Sanju Samson (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shimron Hetmeyer, Devdutt Padikkal, Jos Buttler, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Prasidh Krishna, Trent Boult, Obed McCoy, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Sen, Kuldip Yadav, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, KC Cariappa.

8. Sunrisers Hyderabad: SRH have parted ways with former captain Kane Williamson, who stayed with the management for a long time. The management has also parted ways with West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran. The team has a big amount of Rs 42.25 crore in its purse as they go into the auctions.

  • Retained players: Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan, Kartik Tyagi and Fazalhaq Farooqi.

9. Delhi Capitals: The Rishabh Pant-led side let go of its player Shardul Thakur to KKR and in return got Aman Khan. The team after releases is now left with Rs 19.45 crore in its purse as it goes into auctions. 

  • Retained players: Rishabh Pant (C), David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Ripal Patel, Rovman Powell, Sarfaraz Khan, Yash Dhull, Mitchell Marsh, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Anirch Nortje, Chetan Sakariya, Kamlesh Nagarkotti, Khaleel Ahmed, Lungi Ngidi, Mustafizur Rahman, Aman Khan, Kuldeep Yadav, Praveen Dubey, Vickey Ostwal.

10. Royal Challengers Bangalore: The Faf Du Plessis side has retained the core team from the last time as the team fared well, finishing at the fourth position on the points table. They won 8 out of 14 games. With the major retentions of players like Virat Kohli, Mohammad Siraj, Harshal Patel and Faf Du Plessis, Bangalore now have Rs 2.2 crore in their purse as they go into the auctions.

  • Retained players: Virat Kohli, Faf Du Plessis (C), Glenn Maxwell, David Willey, Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasranga, Mohammard Siraj, Harshal Patel.
