In the third and final ODI against Bangladesh at Chhatogram, the Indian team will eye a win to prevent a clean sweep by Bangladesh. The Indian team's performance, especially the batting which has always been their strength, has been a big disappointment so far in Bangladesh.

When the tournament began, the Indian team looked mighty with its incredible record of 30 wins in 36 matches. But by the end of second ODI, the team looks battered and on a defensive mode. The team is marred with the injuries of its players, with nearly five players including skipper Rohit Sharma ruled out of the squad.

The Team India players who have been injured: Skipper Rohit Sharma had his left thumb dislocated during the second match and has been ruled out of the third match along with pacer Deepak Chahar who, once again, had a hamstring injury during the second ODI.

  • Upcoming pacer Kuldeep Sen too is injured after sustaining a back injury during the second match.
  • Moreover, Axar Patel got injured in the first ODI; and out-of-form Rishabh Pant too is out of the squad due to a back injury.
  • Mohammad Shami is out of the squad because of a shoulder injury.
  • Out of 18 players sent to Bangaldesh, the team is down to only 13 players. The BCCI has sent Kuldeep Yadav on an SOS to join the team as a left-arm wrist spinner. Kuldeep, with 118 wickets from 72 ODIs, will be the most-experienced bowler in that line-up.

The batting line-up: In the third match, since BCCI has not announced a replacement for Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan is expected to join the side.

  • Rahul Tripathi too might be given his first match by coach Rahul Dravid in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Tripathi, in fact, was part of the Indian ODI squad against Zimbabwe and South Africa. However, he did not get any game to play. He is also one of the most consistent players in the squad.
  • There is no fourth option in the pace attack apart from Mohammad Siraj, Umran Malik and Shardul Thakur; given that Deepak Chahar is injured.
  • The team might have to fall back on all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed as the sixth bowling option.
  • In the absence of Rohit Sharma, vice-captain KL Rahul will lead the team.

India's probable Playing XI: Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul Tripathi, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul (wk), Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj, Umran Malik, Kuldeep Yadav.

Bangladesh players who can be a big worry for Team India:

  • Ebadot Hossain, who has scalped 7 wickets in two matches, will be a big worry for the Indian batters. The right-arm pacer dismissed India's top batter Virat Kohli in his first over itself in the second match.
  • All-rounder Shakib al Hasan is also deadly at home as he too has clinched 7 wickets in two matches against India, and has his first five-wicket haul against India in the first ODI.
  • Mehidy Hasan Mirza who propelled Bangladesh to the score of 271 with Mahmudullah in the second ODI, is another batter who can spoil the game for India. Not just with the bat; Mehidy has been good with the ball too, as the right-arm off break bowler has taken 3 wickets in two matches.
  • The Bangladeshi bowling attack has so far been very impressive with Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud and Ebadot Hossain leading the pace attack well, with Shakib al Hasan and Hasan Mehidy backing the spin department.
  • The Bangladesh boys would look for a whitewash in the ODI series as this will also be historic for the team on their home ground.
