In the match, Maxwell and skipper Pat Cummins (12*) formed a record-breaking partnership of 202 runs for the seventh wicket, setting a new record in ODIs.
This surpasses the previous record of 177 runs between Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid of England against New Zealand in 2015 for the seventh wicket.
Maxwell achieved his double century in just 128 balls, making it the second-fastest in ODIs.
The fastest double century in ODI history is held by India's Ishan Kishan, who reached it in 126 balls against Bangladesh last year.
