The mini-auctions for the Indian Premier League (IPL) are scheduled for December 19 in Dubai. Several renowned cricketers, including IPL newcomers, have registered their names for the auctions. Players like Rachin Ravindra, Gerald Goetzee, Daryl Mitchell, and Travis Head might spark a bidding war.

However, IPL 2024 will witness the absence of some notable cricketers who have chosen not to participate in the T20 league by not registering for the auctions.

Here are 3 big players who won't feature in the IPL 2024 season:

Ben Stokes

  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) released Ben Stokes for IPL 2024 after he communicated his decision to the franchise.
  • The 32-year-old cricketer has been battling fitness issues and is reportedly slated for a knee surgery before the Test series against India.
  • Stokes had minimal involvement in CSK's 2023 victory, appearing in only 2 games.
  • He attracted a significant bidding war in the December 2022 auctions and was acquired by CSK for a hefty sum of Rs 16.25 crore.
  • Persistent fitness concerns led to his absence throughout the tournament, resulting in his release by CSK for IPL 2024.

Jofra Archer

  • The English pacer was a key asset for Mumbai Indians (MI), but his IPL stint was cut short due to an elbow injury during a match.
  • Archer featured in only 5 matches for MI in 2023 and secured just 2 wickets.
  • Reports suggested that the England Cricket Board (ECB) advised Archer against participating in IPL 2024 auctions to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
  • Since May 2023, Archer has had limited cricket appearances due to his elbow injury. Despite being part of England's World Cup squad, persistent elbow pain forced him out of the tournament.
  • Archer had joined Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020 and finished the season with 20 wickets. His subsequent seasons were marred by injuries, resulting in MI releasing him.

Joe Root

  • The top-order England batsman informed his franchise, Rajasthan Royals (RR), of his decision not to participate in the IPL 2024 auctions.
  • Despite being an esteemed international cricketer, Root played only 3 matches for RR last season and couldn't perform as anticipated.
  • Root's brief stint with RR in 2023 ended due to below-par performances, leading to his exclusion from the squad.
  • Speculations arise that the 32-year-old cricketer might opt out of future IPL editions as well.
  • The RR management released him before the auctions, extending best wishes for his future endeavors.
