Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel's Gadar 2 is currently in its third week of theatrical run and continues to break records at the box office. Initial assessments by industry tracker Sacnilk reveal that the film amassed around Rs 17 crore on its third Sunday, August 27, inching closer to the remarkable milestone of Rs 500 crore.

Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, serves as the sequel to the 2001 hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, featuring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma. While the film has generated mixed reactions from Gen Z, it has undeniably captured the hearts of many millennials, who are steadfastly supporting it as it enters its third week.

Let's take a look at the records shattered by this blockbuster:

  • Gadar 2 set a new pace, becoming one of the fastest films to reach the 450-crore mark at the Indian box office. This feat was achieved on August 27, breaking the records set by Pathaan (18 days) and Bahubali 2 (20 days).
  • The movie commenced its journey on August 11 with an impressive opening day collection of ₹40.1 crore, marking itself as the second-highest opener of 2023 (after Pathaan).
  • Notably, Gadar 2 became the highest-grossing film in Sunny Deol's career, entering the coveted 100 crore club within just three days.
  • The film secured the second spot for the highest first-weekend earnings, raking in 51 crore. The first position is still held by Pathaan.
  • Gadar 2 witnessed an overwhelming advance booking, with over 1.2 million tickets booked even before its release.

'The Clash'

Gadar 2 faced fierce competition from other major releases that hit theaters a day or two before or after its release.

Despite clashing with OMG 2, Gadar 2 managed to secure an impressive collection of Rs 3.65 crore on Sunday, resulting in a cumulative total of Rs 135.02 crore.

Furthermore, Gadar 2 went head-to-head with Ayushmann Khurrana's Dream Girl 2, premiering on August 25. The film achieved Rs 16 crore on its opening Sunday, accumulating a total collection of Rs 40 crore so far.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth's Jailer, released on August 10, just a day before Gadar 2, is on track to surpass Rs 600 crore at the global box office.

With an initial collection of Rs 450.80 crore in the first week and an additional Rs 124.18 crore in the second week, the movie's total collection stands at an impressive Rs 574.98 crore within its initial two weeks.
