Travis Scott faces no criminal charges for 2021 Astroworld crowd crush that killed 10 people

Travis Scott, the rapper and musician, will not be facing criminal charges for the tragic crowd crush that occurred at his Astroworld Festival in Texas, US in 2021, resulting in the death of 10 people and leaving thousands injured.

After a 19-month investigation, a Texas grand jury has decided not to press charges against Scott and five other individuals involved in the event. According to Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, this decision follows a thorough effort by investigators and prosecutors to uncover the truth.

The lawsuits allege:

  • Scott, Live Nation, and numerous other defendants allowed an overcrowding into the venue despite being aware of the risks, all to create the appearance of a packed concert.
  • At least 4,900 fans were injured, according to the lawyers representing the victims in the lawsuits.

Travis Scott's attorney, Kent Schaffer, emphasized that the findings confirmed Scott's lack of responsibility for the tragedy. Tragedy aside, it's good to know that Travis's attorney is a master at spinning the lack of responsibility into a 'victory.' Schaffer instead expressed hope that the government's efforts would now focus on preventing similar heartbreaking incidents like the one at Astroworld from happening again.

The grand jury's decision also cleared Live Nation festival manager Brent Silberstein and five others of any criminal charges. Silberstein's lawyer, Christopher Downey, affirmed that his client had done everything possible to ensure a safe festival.

Utopian priorities

While legal proceedings are ongoing, Travis Scott himself is now shifting his focus toward the release of his next album, titled Utopia. Not sure what's taking longer - the legal proceedings or the Utopia release. Both seem to be stuck in limbo.

Fans have noticed hints on his updated website, suggesting that the album's release may be imminent. The website's coding apparently includes a pre-order option for Utopia, which links to Scott's official webstore. Guess Travis believes the best way to distract people from a catastrophic event is to drop a new album.

However, as of now, no products are available for purchase. The website prominently features the Utopia logo on its landing page and offers fans the opportunity to receive album updates through various channels, such as text, Discord, or email.

Over the past year, Travis Scott has been actively working on and teasing the highly anticipated album.

  • He has hinted at collaborations, including one with Bad Bunny, which the latter later confirmed.
  • Scott has also mentioned that renowned music producer Mike Dean is mastering the album and even played it for the Houston Astros.

While Epic Records chairperson Sylvia Rhone previously stated in an interview that Utopia would be released in June, it remains to be seen whether the album will drop as anticipated, as we approach the end of the month.
