Shakira's ex Gerard Pique makes it Instagram official with girlfriend Clara Chia days after that diss track

No, it's not Leonardo DiCaprio this time but 35-year-old former Spanish footballer Gerard Pique, Shakira's former partner, who is in the news for dating a woman below 25.

Pique has recently been drawing plenty of online hate and trolling, mainly for cheating on Colombian popstar Shakira, which eventually led to their split last June. Now, amid much speculation, Pique has made his relationship with Clara Chía Martí official on Instagram.

The Spaniard posted a photo of him and his new girlfriend without a caption, with this upload coming only two weeks after Shakira dropped the viral track Out of Your League with Argentinian producer Bizzarap. The track created quite a stir as Shakira spilled the tea on how she deserved a better partner, what Pique’s mother thought about her, and how she’s worth two 22-year-olds. Shakira is 45 years old.

Chía is currently 23. Pique is 35.

Who is Clara Chía Martí? A 23-year-old public relations student from Barcelona, Clara Chía Martí is believed to be working in Kosmos, a media and investments group founded by Pique with the former Barca defender also serving as its president. 

How did Clara and Pique meet? The Sun adds that Martí had once been spotted serving as a waitress for an event party at Kosmos. So, it is clear that she and Pique met through the very same organisation. 

A source close to Martí also told The Sun,

How old is this relationship? With Shakira’s 22-year-old jab in her song, it also seems that she had prior knowledge of Pique being linked with Martí. Insiders close to both have confirmed to media outlets that the two have been seeing each other for months now, with rumours circulating that they started dating last October. 

The romance is being purposely hushed down to avoid negative media attention (which Pique is no stranger to these days) with even Martí’s Instagram account going private. However, with Pique’s latest Insta upload, the couple seems to be ready for the paparazzi. 

So, what went wrong between Shakira and Gerard? Pique first met Shakira back in 2010 while making an appearance in her iconic FIFA anthem Waka Waka. The two went on to date for 11 years and even had two boys together: Milan (10) and Sasha (7). 

Shakira figured out that her long-time boyfriend had been cheating on her when she came home one day to a half-eaten jar of strawberry jam, something that Pique was never fond of. So, deducing the presence of the "other woman", Shakira fans were quick to brand Martí (who was already being rumoured to be involved with Pique) as a "jam thief"!

While Shakira broke up with him largely due to his infidelity, the footballer has since added that another major reason for the split was him asking her for a major sum of money to invest in his businesses, a request that apparently fractured their relationship further. 

With Shakira’s own recent cases of financial fraud pointing to a pending trial (with a potential eight-year sentence), this might be a plausible theory even though the Internet still doesn’t seem to be in any mood to forgive Pique for cheating. The age gap of 12 years between him and his new girlfriend might deliver another blow to his media image. 

Is Shakira dating anyone right now? While she has not made it official, rumours have been circulating since last year with Shakira being linked to a 24-year-old surfing instructor and ocean photographer Gorka Ezkurdia ever since photos of them were released. 

Nothing has been confirmed at the moment although Twitterati will be clearly waiting for another reply (or diss track) from Shakira now that her ex has made his new relationship “Insta-official”.
