Mumbai gears up to get In Da Club as 50 Cent performs this November

“On my 13th birthday, my parents gifted me a Sony CD player and I called up my friend to bring whatever CDs he had. One song that stuck with me was Hate or Love It by 50 Cent.” says Mumbai-based rapper Poetik Justis in the documentary Kya Bolta Bantai

Like Justis, many other Indian rappers who grew up in the 2000s were inspired by chart-topping rappers of the era such as Eminem and his eventual protege 50 Cent. While Eminem still continues to be relevant (albeit with some arguably cringe-inducing music), 50 Cent fizzled out of popularity as a solo artist by the late 2000s. Meanwhile, he did emerge successful as an actor, producer and even an investor in a bottled water company!

But now he is planning to resurge as a performer with one of his stops being Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is currently embarking on his The Final Lap tour and plans to have a show in India on November 25.

“Namaste India, it’s your boy 50. I got fresh news for you. I’m coming to Mumbai, India in November. It’s going down, the Final Lap Tour,” The rapper said in an Instagram video from July 10.

The ongoing tour also marks 20 years of his breakout debut Get Rich or Die Tryin’, the 2003 album that spawned iconic singles like In Da Club and 21 Questions. So, it’s clear that the Grammy winner will be performing his greatest hits in Mumbai this November.

However, this is not the first time that the New York-bred rapper has performed in India. The last time he performed in the country was also on a November day in Mumbai but in 2007. It has been more than 15 years since.

Considering his closeness with Eminem, one can only hope that 50 Cent calls up his friend to perform in India someday (given the massive fanbase Eminem has had in the country)!
