I've never watched a movie alone in a theatre; even though I've heard for the longest time from my introverted friends that it is one of the best experiences possible. But when I saw Taylor Swift's Eras movie tickets getting booked in the blink of an eye, I knew I had no time to force my best friends (who are not Swifties) to go watch a concert movie, which they would not relate to or understand, or pay Rs 700 for.
So, I ended up booking one ticket, hoping that I'd convince someone to watch the concert movie with me, but I didn't. On November 3, I took two hours to enter my Reputation-era cosplay (which was the easiest though; just wear all black and shimmery) and ran to the show.
While running to the theatre (I was late), I had a lot of questions and doubt running through my mind: "Why did you want to watch a movie alone? That, too, in cosplay? You know it is Noida, and it's not safe! You will be the only clown wearing a shimmery outfit in a movie theatre!"
The theatre was on the fourth floor, but soon I saw four or five women within the same age group as me running too, and equally dressed up.
"It's okay, Reputation-era Swiftie, you're not late," said a girl in an all-black outfit with long earrings that looked like snakes, and suddenly, all my doubts and questions just vanished.
I was not alone.

As I walked towards my seat, I realised that everyone was all dressed up, and the crowd comprised not only women, but children and old men and fans from all genders.
And as soon as the clock came on (a literal clock that is the first scene of the movie that does backwards counting from 13) and from the within the first verse of her opening song, Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince, everyone started singing along (everyone knew the entire lyrics of almost all of her songs), and it did not stop until her last one, Karma.
Throughout these 2 hours and 45 minutes, everyone was not only singing but dancing, crying, making videos, clicking photos, and screaming their lungs out.
At one point in time, when Enchanted from the album Speak Now came on, everyone ran towards the screen, made a circle, and started chanting in the theatre landing area.
The entire theatre had a weird sense of belonging together, and it didn't matter if you knew the other person or not, if Shake It Off played on the screen, you were going to dance with anyone near you.
The crowd went crazy; so much so, that the theatre folks had to come and ask everyone to "maintain distance from the screen".

The concert movie made me realise that it is okay to feel, it's okay to overdress for occasions, and well, that you're not alone.
Till then, let's pray Taylor Swift does a show in India soon!
