Supermodel Gigi Hadid faced an unexpected setback during her vacation to the Cayman Islands when she was arrested by Customs & Border Control agents on July 10. The authorities discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia in her luggage upon her arrival.
She was released on bail and appeared before the Summary Court on July 12, where she pleaded guilty and paid a $1000 fine, without receiving any conviction on her record.
Gigi Hadid wasn't alone during this incident. She was accompanied by her close friend, Leah Nicole McCarthy, 29, who was also arrested due to similar materials found in her bag. Both Gigi and Leah were each fined $1000.
A representative for Gigi Hadid provided an explanation to the media, stating that she had legally purchased marijuana in New York City with a medical license. Additionally, the representative pointed out that medical use of marijuana has been legal in Grand Cayman since 2017. Therefore, Gigi's record remains clear, and she was able to continue enjoying her time on the island.
The news of Gigi Hadid and Leah McCarthy's arrest initially surfaced in a local newspaper of the Cayman Islands, Cayman Mal Road. According to the publication, the two friends arrived in the Cayman Islands via a private plane at the Owen Roberts International Airport General Aviation Terminal from the United States on July 10.
During a routine scan by a Customs and Border Control Officer, a small amount of marijuana and drug consumption paraphernalia were discovered in their luggage, leading to their arrest on "suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja."
Following their detention, they were taken to the Prisoner Detention Center but later released on bail to attend their arraignment at the George Town Summary Court on July 12, where they were fined $1000 each. No convictions were recorded for either Gigi Hadid or Leah Nicole McCarthy.
Despite this unfortunate incident, Gigi Hadid and Leah McCarthy have managed to continue enjoying their vacation in the Cayman Islands. They have been making the most of their time, relaxing under the sun and sharing delightful moments on Instagram.
On July 14, Gigi posted a picture of herself in a bikini, indicating that she has moved forward from the incident and is focusing on the positive aspects of her vacation.
Leah Nicole McCarthy has also shared pictures of her travel experiences on her own Instagram account.
In a recent Instagram post, Gigi Hadid captioned a series of pictures with her friends at the beach, stating, "All's well that ends well." The post showcased the group having a great time and relishing delicious meals, including pizza.
