The last few months have been tough for the Central Board of Film Certification with the likes of Adipurush and the very recent Oppenheimer and Gita controversy, and it looks like Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 is going to face the after-effect of that.

What

Akshay Kumar's new movie, Oh My God 2 (OMG 2), is facing the scrutiny of the CBFC and has been ruffling feathers even before its release. The film, directed by Amit Rai, has been under the scanner since they released the official trailer.

The newest buzz suggests that the CBFC has handed the OMG 2 makers a list of 15-20 cuts before it is passed. The board reportedly asked for major changes in the film due to its focus on sex education, and some scenes were considered controversial by the board.

CBFC’s orders to OMG 2 team

The film certification board has issued the following instructions to the makers of OMG 2

  • A total of 15-20 cuts or substitute scene changes in the movie, which affect both visual and sound elements from it.
  • An adults-only rating for the movie, under the reason that certain topics that the movie revolves around are not suitable for kids.

How are the filmmakers taking it?

The filmmakers are certainly unhappy with these mandates by the CBFC since:

  • Those many cuts might ruin the film's essence and will significantly impede the desired flow of the message that the film carries.
  • They also disagree with an 'A' rating because they believe that sex education should be accessible to all ages.
  • Additionally, the first part of the franchise, OMG Oh My God (2012), is popular with kids.

Once bitten twice shy?

CBFC has certainly had a tough year this time around. The amount of fingers that have been pointed towards them have been limitless and most of the credit for that goes to

  • Adipurush - which was a not-so-necessary take on the epic of Ramayana
  • Oppenheimer’s Bhagawad Gita reference during an intimate sex scene in the movie

With the heavy rage and criticism from the viewers on these two instances, CBFC does not want to take any risks at all with OMG 2, as the possibility of the same scenarios repeating are very high in the movie, all due to its reputation of questioning religion and blind faith.

The movie, starring Akshay Kumar and Panjak Tripathi in the lead roles, is slated for an August 11 release, but it all depends on the clearance from the CBFC.
