1. DUNE

The Timothée Chalamet-starrer science fiction movie was the biggest winner at Oscars 2022; taking home 6 awards. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the movie follows the story of Paul Atreides, who travels to the most dangerous planet in the universe to save the future of his family and his people.

Dune is based on a 1965 science fiction novel by Frank Herbert. The novel is divided into two books and the movie is based on the first. The second part of Dune is all set to release in 2023. Along with Timothée, the movie also stars Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, and Javier Bardem.
2. THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE

The Eyes of Tammy Faye tracks the rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker in the 1970s-80s. Starring Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield, the movie won 2 Oscars; Best Actress In A Leading Role by Jessica and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

3. CODA
WHERE TO WATCH IN INDIA: Apple TV+
CODA follows the story of a girl who is the only hearing member of a deaf family, attempting to help her family's struggling fishing business, while at the same time pursuing her own aspirations. The movie is a remake of the 2014 French film La Famille Bélier. The movie won 3 Oscars; Best Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role by Troy Kotsur (who himself is a hearing impaired person) and Best Adapted Screenplay.

4. KING RICHARD

Based on the lives tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams, King Richard follows the story of the sister duo being trained by their father Richard Williams. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the movie stars Will Smith, Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton. Will Smith won an Oscar for Best Actor for his potrayal of Richard.

5. WEST SIDE STORY

Directed by Steven Spielberg and set in 1957 New York City, West Side Story is essentially a musical version of lovers from rival gangs that are trying to gain control of the streets of New York. West Side Story stars Ansel Elgort, Ariana DeBose and Rachel Zegler. Ariana DeBose won the Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress and made history as the first openly queer and Afro-Latina person to win an Oscar.

6. THE POWER OF THE DOG

A psychological drama directed by Jane Campion, for which she won the Best Director Oscar, is based on the 1967 novel by Thomas Savage by the same name. The film features Phil Burbank, a rancher who torments his brother's new wife and son till he is exposed to the possibility of love himself.

7. ENCANTO

A Disney production, Encanto is the story of a multigenerational Colombian family, where each child and grandchild has a magical power except Mirabel. When the family begins to lose their power, Mirabel sets out to find out why and saves her family along with their magical house.

WHERE TO WATCH IN INDIA: MUBI
A Japanese drama-road movie, Drive My Car is based upon Haruki Murakami's short story of the same name from his 2014 collection Men Without Women. Drive My Car features an ageing, widowed actor who seeks a chauffeur. The actor goes to his mechanic, who ends up recommending a 20-year-old girl and they develop a special relationship.
The movie won the Oscar for best International Feature Film.
