Malare and Chinuku Taake, songs of love and longing
Premam’s song Malare and Pelli Choopulu’s Chinuku Taake have more than one thing in common. The films don’t follow a similar pattern although both stories fall under the coming-of-age romance category.
The Malayalam blockbuster Premam stars Nivin Pauly, Sai Pallavi, Madonna Sebastian and Anupama Parameswaran, and the Telugu superhit Pelli Choopulu stars Vijay Deverakonda, Ritu Varma, and Nandu. While the Malayalam film spoke about the love of a man in three different stages, the Telugu film, which is still running in theatres, made its way into the hearts of youngsters through a tale of carefree romance.
At the face of it, Malare and Chinuku Taake feature the films’ leads along with their old flames. The path breaking Malare brings together the forces of George (Nivin Pauly) and Malar (Sai Pallavi), and the mellifluous Chinuku Taake rides on the charm of Chitra (Ritu Varma) and Vikram (Nandu).
The narrative structure of Premam moves in a linear fashion, whereas Ritu opens up about her former lover to Vijay in a flashback. The structure isn’t that important here. My point is simple: Malare and Chinuku Taake are soft romantic milkshakes made in the same blender.
Filmmakers Alphonse Puthren and Tharun Bhascker have portrayed the highs and lows of relationships via Premam and Pelli Choopulu, respectively. George is besotted with the aura of Malar, and that’s clearly seen in Malare.
On the other hand, Chitra has fallen mindlessly into a pit of vanilla and roses because she can’t keep herself away from Vikram. The kind of magnetic power Malar and Vikram possess has to be seen to be believed. The music and lyrics empower listeners with a great amount of positivity.
The Telugu version of Malare, (Evare), featuring Naga Chaitanya and Shruti Haasan released recently, and it didn’t meet the expectations of the countless fans of the original.
As expected, troll masters unleashed their weapons of memes on cinema pages. It’s an indication that the love for Malar teacher and Malare won’t stop anytime soon.
George doesn’t marry Malar. Chitra and Vikram’s relationship also falls flat. The fact of the matter is, Malar and Vikram end up as hanging bridges. George and Chitra walk through these bridges, and find their own paths later.
Their itchy relationships have, however, given us songs with big red hearts for which we need to be thankful.
