Twitter reacts to that iconic Deepti and Shake moment in Love is Blind

In the world of marriages, the criteria for physical looks has long been an important component. 'Fair, thin, slim, brown eyes' are only some of the 'requirements' that marriage seekers look for and if not fulfilled, tend to reject prospects. And now, reality TV is only taking it a notch higher.

Netflix's hit reality show Love is Blind returned for its second season and this featured an Indian couple; Deepti Vempati and Abhishek "Shake" Chatterjee. The pair continued to date till the final episode of the season and *spoiler alert* broke it off during their wedding ceremony. The season finale aired on February 25.

Their first meeting took place in two rooms that were seperated by a wall (known as pods) and the couple seemed to have built an emotional connection over time. But Shake kept telling the cameras, his co-stars and even his mother that he was physicaly unattracted to Deepti and that there was a spark missing.

His comments over Deepti weren't innocent, but instead, were hurtful and unncessary and his so-called concerns were the centre of his plotline during the show. This GIF really is one of the things that Shake said about Deepti to the cameras:

By the way, this was Shake's inital reaction when he saw Deepti: 

Ultimately, Deepti said at the altar that she did not want to marry Shake, and said that she chose herself over a marriage to him.

After breaking up with him, Deepti went on to say, "I don’t think he realises what he just lost. And a little time from now, he’s gonna look back and realise he lost the best thing of his life. And when that day comes, I’ll be long gone. To me, that’s heartbreaking, but I have to see my worth and move on. He doesn’t deserve me."

After this very iconic moment, Deepti's brother and sister-in-law; Sunny and Hina Merchant Vempati took to Instagram on February 28 to voice their opinion on Shake. The couple directly told Shake that he "minimised my sister’s life by making some awful and cringeworthy comments about her" and called him a loser. Sunny and Hina also said that they are extremely proud of Deepti in the post.

The couple also wrote, "You made these statements knowing your own mom would one day watch it; my parents and my entire family had to sit through you talking behind my sister’s back about insecurities she fought her entire life."

Sunny and Hina also clarified that Shake couldn't blame editing for what happened. The couple wrote in the same Instagram post, "In spite of your best efforts to pretend this was all fictional and it was because of the ‘edit’, no one forced you to say those words."

After Sunny and Hina's post, Shake put out an Instagram post of his own saying, "I'm not perfect but I'm real."

And the internet shares Sunny and Hina's sentiments towards Shake.

Good for you, Deepti! Dating in itself is a minefield and the thought of being stuck in a marriage where you won't be valued is horrifying. Walking out at the altar will go down as one of the most courageous moves on reality TV for a long time.
