Euphoria is breaking the Internet. Desi teens have bigger problems though
Euphoria is the only thing any teenager in the world can talk about but safe to say, Indians can't relate at all
HBO's hit series Euphoria is... unrealistic. To imagine a bunch 16-17-year-olds having free access to drugs and alcohol is definitely unreasonable; especially for Indian students. At the age of Science le ya Commerce, living the Euphoria life is a dream that is unlikely to come true. The only possible character for Indian high-schoolers to even remotely relate to would be Euphoria's 'tamest', Lexi Howard.
The show is narrated by Rue Bennet, who is played by Zendaya. Rue has a serious drug addiction and even though she's been in rehab, she barely stays off the drugs which she buys from Fezco and Ashtray. Other characters include Maddy Perez who has a very toxic, on-and-off relationship with her physically and verbally abusive boyfriend, Nate Jacobs. Nate also has extreme anger issues and is manipulative.
Kat Hernandez is dealing with toxic positivity and reclaiming her body while Cassie Howard suffers from her promiscuous reputation and an abortion. The show's only transgender character, Jules Vaughn, spends time figuring out herself and her sexuality.
So, while Euphoria might be a rage everywhere, Indian teens might not find it that relatable. Here are a few reasons why.
All the characters are regularly seen in extravagant clothes and very detailed makeup but if you were to show a Delhi person their outfits, this is the exact response you would receive:

Now if you were to say, colour your hair in an unnatural shade, this is how Indian parents would typically react (#humbled):

When Euphoria's key characters are facing life-changing relationship issues, this is one of Indian teens' biggest problems (it hurts that there was a time I could relate) :

And while Euphoria characters stress over cheating with their best friend's partner, students in India lament over being separated from the person they intended to cheat in the exam from.

Regardles of how the Euphoria teenagers are living their life, they could never compete with an Indian teenager's social media game. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
