What to expect from Baahubali 2 (going by the posters)

The world is waiting for SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion. The nation’s audience danced to Baahubali: The Beginning’s tunes last year. Prabhas, in many of his interviews, has mentioned that one Baahubali is equal to a 100 films. That may be true on many levels.

A poster and a motion poster for Baahubali 2 were released online on the eve of the star’s birthday. Shivudu/Mahendra Baahubali looks quite angry in the newly released poster. It also features another face - probably Amarendra Baahubali’s.

Prabhas, Anushka, Tamannaah, Rajamouli, and Shobu got together to speak about the many features of Baahubali at MAMI Movie Mela. The team members were quizzed by film critics Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra.

At the event, Rajeev stated some facts regarding the first part of Baahubali. He said: “The film was shot for 380 days. It has more than 4,500 VFX shots which were created by more than 800 technicians. More than 2,000 junior artists participated in the war scenes. Baahubali: The Beginning crossed the Rs 100-crore mark at the box office in 36 hours.”

The numbers are obviously quite staggering and this has naturally upped the expectations for the second part.

An animation series based on the movie will be released on Amazon Prime in 2017. Also, the makers are coming up with a virtual reality experience set in the world of Baahubali where viewers will be able to interact with the characters.

The noise these side-wings keep making is really hard to ignore. “India’s biggest motion picture” is more than a piece of work because the people behind Baahubali are trying to create life-like experiences that will live for a long time.

The recently released poster doesn’t do justice to the heavenly vision of Baahubali at all. Take a look at it. It looks like a poster for a graphic novel. It doesn’t, in any way, appear remarkable. In fact, the posters that were released for The Beginning were opulent.

Did the high-expectations for The Conclusion backfire? It seems so (for the poster at least).

Does this lacklustre poster mean the grandness has taken a step back? Maybe! Or, maybe not!

Here’s the thing: The journey of Baahubali 2 may have begun for Rajamouli and his team a year ago, but for us, this is more or less the beginning. The release of posters and teasers has just started.

Crossing the Rs 100-crore mark in India is passé. One or two films do it almost every month. Can India’s darling, Baahubali 2, cross the Rs 1,000-crore mark? It will certainly open luxurious doors for experimentation if that happens.

We’ll know why Kattappa killed Baahubali and the fate of the second part next year. Until then, Jai Mahishmati!
