Who is Kamaal R Khan?
Well, if you don’t have an answer to that question, then either you have been living under a rock or may have just saved yourself from an onslaught of questionable film reviews and misogynistic and defamatory tweets from Bollywood’s self proclaimed actor, producer and critic. But then he does boast of 1.26 million followers on Twitter and has forced members of the film fraternity to lock horns with him time and again.
That’s why you can love him, you can hate him, but you cannot ignore him.
41-year-old Kamaal R Khan made his debut as a writer, producer and actor with the 2008 Bollywood film Deshdrohi. It addressed the attack of North Indians in Maharashtra but was considered to be insensitive and derogatory towards the community that was attacked by him in the film. Deshdrohi was initially banned in the state but eventually saw the light of day.
Since then KRK as he likes to call himself has also made an appearance on the third edition of the reality TV series Big Boss 3. He was kicked out of the show prematurely for not just verbally abusing a fellow contestant but for also resorting to physical violence when he hurled a bottle of water in anger.
When the film career never took off and reality shows were hard to come by, KRK decided to head a trade website "KRK Box Office" in 2014 which was launched with none other than superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the chief guest.
Much before that he had already started reviewing films on his Youtube channel and didn’t think twice about abusing or trolling celebrities on his Twitter handle.
His social media stardom is thanks to his crass and "he is so bad that he is good" phenomena. |
Sample this, KRK wanted to conduct a survey on which Bollywood actresses had a posterior that could compete with that of Kim Kardashian. Sonakshi Sinha who is known to speak her mind did not mince words while replying to the misogynist.
She said and I quote:
Please RT this if u think @kamaalrkhan is a woman disrespecting waste of space and deserves to be hung upside down and given 4 tight slaps.

That’s not all KRK also commented on a magazine cover which featured Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt saying some distasteful things about Bhatt. Malhotra did not take this lying down and responded:
Sir ! We also try very hard to tell u to shut up but u keep tweeting ! @kamaalrkhan https://t.co/YRS4drWnVI
— Sidharth Malhotra (@S1dharthM) February 27, 2016
KRK’s foul-mouthed tweets about Rishi Kapoor prompted the veteran actor to tweet that he would ask Twitter to take official action against him. Here's how it panned out:
Sir @chintskap Apke Naam Par Bhi Ek Bar Khola Jayega Jahan Kuch Chutiya Talli Hokar Kuch Bhi Chutiyapa Tweet Karenge https://t.co/7VSgyat9AK
— KRK (@kamaalrkhan) May 18, 2016
Reporting this to the Twitter officials for foul language https://t.co/6sfUVgaiw7

From trolling Sunny Leone and Shah Rukh Khan to making derogatory remarks about filmmaker Vikram Bhatt in his film review of 1920 London KRK does not fail to hit a new low with each passing day. From FIRs to legal notices, nothing seems to act as a deterrent.
The question then that begs to be asked is how does Kamaal R Khan have more than a million followers on Twitter and why do his film reviews garner millions of views? His social media stardom is thanks to his crass and "he is so bad that he is good" phenomena. Many people’s guilty pleasure even. Or is it just that people love to hate KRK.
