Jack Daniel's and Coca-Cola to come up with canned cocktail

Remember when you told your parents about wanting to buy a chilled Coke in that cute can? Well, from the next year onward, you will probably get another choice: a pretty ready-made cocktail made by Jack Daniel's and Coke.

A GIST

Jack Daniel's, the world's prominent whiskey seller has come together with our beloved Coca-Cola to roll out a new offering: 2 types of premixed cocktails made of Coke and Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey. The Tennessee whiskey will be mixed with a regular Coke and a zero-sugar Coke to create two variants of the drink.

The classic bar cocktail, a combo of Jack Daniel’s whiskey and Coke, is slated to roll out globally in premixed cans in late 2022 and will first be offered in Mexico.

A BACKGROUND

During and post the pandemic, sales of canned cocktails have exploded because drinkers are looking for convenience and new flavors beyond wine and beer. The beverage category grew 53% last year and is projected to grow another 29% over the next three years, as per IWSR Drinks analysis. Ironically, soda consumption is declining and this along with the boom of canned cocktails has helped recognized brands to break through in this canned cocktail sector quickly and encouraged them to bring punchier flavors and drinks.

So, the collaboration between Coke and Jack Daniel's isn't surprising considering the industry's changing environment. For eg: Dunkin' has created doughnut-flavored beer, Oreo is collaborating with another brand to create wine, and Pepsi Co's HARD MTN DEW is releasing sugar-free canned versions of their signature sodas with 5% alcohol. Even Coca-Cola's Fresca is launching a line of canned cocktails. So when everyone seems to be jumping on this canned cocktail bandwagon, why would Coke stay behind?

This is Coke's fourth new alcoholic drink in its portfolio and the first from the soda point of view. It has already collaborated with brands like Molson Coors Beverage and Constellation Brands to create Topo Chico Hard Seltzer, Simply Spiked Lemonade, and Fresca Mixed Cocktails.

WHAT WILL THIS CANNED COCKTAIL HAVE?

The new products will simply be called Jack Daniel's & Coca-Cola and will contain 5% alcohol by volume. But the volume may vary depending on the country. The bottle packaging will see both brands on the front and center as both companies desire to 'feature two of the world's most recognizable and valuable trademarks' on the bottle together. The bottle will also include 'clear responsibility symbols' to indicate that the beverage is for legal-aged drinkers.
