1. Maison Boarini Milanesi 

Italian luxury handbag brand Maison Boarini Milanesi broke the record for the most expensive bag in the world when they unveiled a €6 million (ie. Rs 55.6 crore) worth handbag. 

Why is this so expensive?

The bag was inspired by the sea and was designed with a unique choice of gems to raise awareness of the need to protect oceans. The bag also reflected the brand’s commitment to donate €800,000 (about Rs 6 crore) of every bag sold to rid the world’s marine environments of plastic. 

The bag is crafted from semi-shiny alligator skin and is embellished with 10 white gold butterflies and a diamond-paved clasp. Four of the butterflies are adorned with diamonds, while three are set with sapphire and the rest are set with Paraiba tourmalines.

2. The Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Pearl Purse 

This handcrafted Rs 29.5 crore bag made of asli sona and heera is made of 18-karat gold and is studded with 4,517 diamonds. Again, it has about 105 yellow diamonds, 56 pink diamonds, and 4,356 colourless diamonds. This bag held a Guinness World Record for being the most expensive bag in the world till the Maison Boarini Milanesi took over. 

3. Hermes Kelly Rose Gold 

A dozen tiny rose gold bags were made in collaboration between Hermes and jeweller and shoe designer Pierre Hardy. Each bag was crafted for over two years to ensure that the cover resembled crocodile leather. The solid rose gold bag costing Rs 15.5 crore is dotted with 1,160 diamonds and only 12 pieces of this bag exist in the world today. Though the bag is carried conventionally, it is too small to fit even a phone. So, the rich folks wear it as a bangle, with the handles around their wrist.

4. Hermes Birkin Bag By Gin Tanaka 

This bag by Japanese designer Gin Tanaka and Hermes is made of platinum and is embedded with 2,000 diamonds on its outer shell. The bag's diamond strap can be used as a necklace and a bracelet by just detaching it from the bag. Hence, the Rs 10-crore bag can be used as a clutch and as a necklace or a bracelet. That's not just it, the pear-shaped 8-karat stone on the bag can also be worn as a brooch.

5. Hermes Chaine’d Ancre Bag 

The Hermes Chaine’d Ancre Bag is a Pierre Hardy collectible and does not feel like it could be used as a bag to carry something. Also, the fact that there exist only 3 such pieces makes the Rs 3 crore worth bag equivalent to a rare piece of art. The bag's complex, prison-like design due to its anchor-shaped chain links are embedded with 1,160 pieces of diamonds.
