There's prime time and then there's Prime Time. If you are fed up with the shouting marathons and political mud-slinging in the name of television debates that are usually reserved for the 8 - 11 pm slot, and more specifically, the 9-10 pm super slot, you will wholly concur with Rohan Sippy's poignant five-minute "expose".

A still from Prime Time, by Rohan Sippy.

Prime Time, a short film by Rohan Sippy, premiered at the two-day India Today Conclave 2016, which was held on March 17-18, 2016. It was released as a part of the "India Tomorrow" series, wherein five filmmakers, including Imtiaz Ali, Meghna Gulzar, Hansal Mehta and Pradeep Sarkar, in addition to Sippy, were asked to share their visions of India in the near future. The artists focussed on themes such as nationalism, Dalit politics and students struggle behind Rohith Vemula's suicide, questions of feminism and body in the issue of sex work, the prejudices that die hard as well as what gets peddled as "news" by the omnipresent media.

Rohan Sippy is an established Bollywood name with works like Dum maro Dum, Bluffmaster, Kuchh Na Kaho and others to his credit. In Prime Time, Sippy presents a slice of life as seen within the television media, with its TRP wars and sensationalisation of the non-issues. It's a must-watch if you are serious about the business of newsmaking.
