“Weekend thha sir, sab party karte hai, aur mai yahan lauki chheel raha tha. Bekar gaon hai. Mann nahi lagta yahan,” though Jitendra Kumar (Sachiv ji), said these lines with an utter frustration, the audience fell in love with Panchayat, a show about a small village, Phulera, Uttar Pradesh's (UP) Ballia district.
After a hilarious first season, The Viral Fever (TVF) is back with the second season. This time with more comedy punches and real-life dramatic scenes that tickle your bones. The makers surprised the audience by releasing all episodes of the show two days before the official release.
However, in the second season, the writers somehow fail to deliver something new. They followed the same storyline as the first season. Before you watch the second season, here is the trailer:
Here are five things that went wrong in the second part:
1. WHERE’S THE LOVE?
The first season ended with the hint of a possible love story between Jitendra Kumar (Sachiv ji) and Pradhan’s daughter Rinki. This is what made Sachiv ji take interest in the gloomy village life again.
Unfortunately, the show in the second season hardly adds any depth to their love story. The slow simmering affection that builds up in the later episodes of the second season finds no meaningful end and the viewers are confused about it. Rinki’s wedding goes for a toss while Sachiv ji’s transfer is also on the list.
2. NO MORE OF FRUSTRATED SACHIV JI
The second season shows a more calm and composed Sachiv ji, who even resolves the personal issues of people. But the audience would miss the Sachiv ji who would draw water from the handpump while venting out his frustration saying: "Din mein gaon waalon ki jhik-jhik raat me light ki jhik-jhik. Kabhi yeh emergency charge karo, kabhi wo emergency charge karo. Office ke baad 3-4 ghante bachte hain …wo bhe issi me chale jaate hai ...jalaate bujhaate.”
His helplessness drew more sympathy for him while the support from his office boy Vikas, Prahlad ji and Pradhan also amused the viewers.
3. NEW CHARACTERS ADD NOTHING NEW
Sanvikaa (Rinki) didn't get much screentime in the first season. Even though she gets enough scenes this time, her character hardly brings anything new to the table.
Another new character, Sachiv ji’s friend Siddharth (Satish Ray), also makes an appearance in the seventh episode. But his character is also fails to make an impression.
Similarly, a negative character, Bhushan (Durgesh Kumar), introduced in the initial episodes, also fails to add any charm to the story.
4. NO ABUSES PLEASE
One remembers Panchayat as the one of the few web series which we can watch with our family. But, in the second season, the use of foul language also gets to another level and it surely wouldn’t amuse the viewers.
The fans of Jitendra Kumar will also not like it as their favorite character gets a dressing down from a MLA. The dialogues packed with filthy words that come from the mouth of an arrogant politician will certainly not go down well with the fans of Sachiv ji.
The writers could have portrayed this in a light humour without losing the essence of the show.
5. STRANGE WRITING
Seems like the writers wanted to make it more emotional this time by exploring the characters. In the second season, the writing till the fifth episode is humuorus, where the four main characters engage in resolving the problems of the village.
But from the sixth episode, the show takes a different turn. It gets a bit serious, the characters yell at each other, and in the end, the show ends on a highly emotional note. Something which we had absolutely not seen in the first season.
We ended the first season with a smile on our faces, but I am sure when you end this one, there will be tears in your eyes.
