And so it finally happened! As many had predicted, Leonardo DiCaprio took home the Academy Award for Best Actor this year for playing Hugh Glass in The Revenant. With six previous nominations over the course of 22 years in film, it has been a long time coming for DiCaprio. 

DiCaprio’s struggle for that elusive Oscar has become the subject of many discussions, blogs, memes and jokes on the internet. So, this also marks the end of an era - end of one of internet’s greatest memes.

In his acceptance speech, DiCaprio used The Revanant's theme of "the power of the natural world" to stress on the need for human beings to act on climate change.
