Eminent Indian professor Dr Harish Chandra Verma was felicitated with the Padma Shri on November 8 this year for his contributions in the field of Science and Engineering. He is the author of several books on physics at the school and college level, and is famous for his two-volume book Concept of Physics. He was a professor in the Department of physics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
WELL DESERVED: Prof HC Verma’s books have a permanent spot in every school and engineering student’s bookshelf. He has also published 139 research papers in reputed journals. Prof Verma is an Executive Committee member of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers, and has developed more than 600 physics experiments. Before joining IIT Kanpur, he served as a lecturer and reader at Science College, Patna University (1979-1994).
As Dr Verma received the prestigious Padma Shree, students all across the country celebrated the occasion and a few got nostalgic remembering their school, tuition and college days.
