With the Bigg Boss finale just about 10 days away, Deepak Thakur has sprung up as a surprise, becoming one of the top contenders for the winner’s trophy.
Thakur, who entered the house as a ‘commoner’, has not only played it smart, but also mostly clean. His journey in the house has been fun-filled.
As opposed to the celebrity contestants, such as television actors Dipika Karak and Karanvir Bohra, and former cricketer S Sreesanth, Thakur entered the competition without any prior advantages.
Deepak Thakur entered the house with Urvashi Vani as the first ‘vichitra jodi’.
His humility has won many hearts.
He has built his fan base, which has ensured he is not evicted from the house, during his stay, totally based on the way he has played.
Hailing from Bihar, Thakur is a Bhojpuri singer who sang the song 'Moora' in the film Gangs of Wasseypur-2. His career hasn’t seen much success since then.
But his fan base seems to have grown during his stay in the house now — a fact that came to light when RJ Malishka visited Bigg Boss. While Malishka held a radio session with Deepak and another contestant, Somi Khan, a lot of people called in, saying they wanted to talk to Deepak and that they were his fans!
While callers asked celebrity contestants questions mostly related to their fights and controversies in the house, they only had love and admiration to convey for Deepak.
According to some reports, Deepak dropped out of his MBA course because of monetary constraints — but was discovered by Anurag Kashyap via Instagram.
In the house, he has shown the fighter spirit in him on multiple occasions. While celebrity contestants have not taken tasks seriously — banking on their ‘star power’ to save them from evictions — Deepak has performed all tasks with great energy and till the very last.
He has joked around the house, and mixed with both celebrity and commoner contestants alike.
He has spoken up whenever the situation demanded. While Deepak has shown a keen urge to win the competition, he hasn’t come across as ill-behaved or too pushy.
He has also been successful in keeping the audience interest in the show intact through his ‘relationships’ — first with Urvashi, and then with Somi Khan.
Even though Deepak and Urvashi’s relationship left the audience confused over its ‘status’, his flirtations with Somi have kept everyone entertained. Somi’s mother too said she finds Deepak’s equation with her daughter ‘cute’.
Here's to a contestant who could become a celebrity, simply on the power of being a common man.
