Twitter is now X, Elon Musk kills the Blue Bird

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter last year, the social media platform has been seeing a lot of changes. The long-time users of the microblogging website have been mostly critical of these changes, and have even accused the Tesla CEO of destroying the platform.

But looks like all those criticisms didn't have any affect on Musk as now he is rebranding the company to X, which he used to call the "Everything app".

Twitter has launched its new logo X, dropping the blue bird symbol on its website. The social media platform's new logo is a white X on a black background.

Also, X.com now redirects to Twitter.com.

What happened?

Musk on Sunday had tweeted that he plans to "bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.".

In a series of tweets, Musk said that he's looking to make the change worldwide as soon as Monday (July 24).

"Not sure what subtle clues gave it way, but I like the letter X," Musk tweeted on Sunday (June 23)

But why?

There are a few reasons why Musk is considering a rebranding of Twitter. First, the Twitter logo has been one of the most recognizable symbols on the internet for over a decade. However, the current logo has also been criticized for being outdated and simplistic, reported The Verge.

Second, Musk has said that he wants to make Twitter a "platform for free speech around the globe." A new logo could help to signal this shift in focus.

Musk has a history of rebranding companies that he has acquired. For example, he renamed Tesla's electric car division from "Tesla Motors" to "Tesla."

The move comes at a time when Meta's latest app, Threads, hit the market earlier this month. It has been seen as an alternative for those who have been upset with Twitter.

Troubles at Twitter

Twitter has been facing a number of troubles in recent months, both before and after Musk's acquisition of the company. These troubles include:

A decline in user growth: Twitter's user base has been growing slowly in recent years, and it has even declined in some quarters. This decline is likely due to a number of factors, including the rise of other social media platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram.

A stagnant advertising business: Twitter's advertising business has also been stagnant in recent years. This is likely due to the fact that Twitter's user base is not growing, and the company has not been able to attract as many advertisers as its competitors.

Musk's takeover: Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter has added to the company's troubles. Musk has been a vocal critic of Twitter's moderation policies, and he has said that he wants to make the platform more open and freewheeling. However, his plans for Twitter have been met with mixed reactions, and some users have expressed concerns about the future of the platform under his leadership.

Bottom line

Musk's decision to change the Twitter logo is a significant one. The logo is one of the most important visual representations of a company, and it can have a big impact on how people see the brand.

Musk's decision to change the logo suggests that he is planning to make major changes to Twitter's branding and identity.
