Uri attack another attempt by terrorists to disrupt elections in Kashmir
Ten security force personnel - a Lieutenant Colonel and six Army personnel besides three policemen - were killed as terrorists attacked an Army camp in the Uri area of Kashmir's Baramulla district. Five terrorists were also killed in the attack. The attack clearly seems an attempt to disrupt the ongoing assembly elections in the state as the area is going to vote in third phase of polling on December 9.
You can't have it both ways, Mr Kejriwal
Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has only himself to blame for landing in a silly controversy after he was photographed travelling to Dubai by business class. Of course, the outrage is rather excessive as the ticket was booked by the organisers of the event that Kejriwal has been invited to. But since Kejriwal is someone who wears his Aam Aadmi image on his sleeve, or rather muffler, he is bound to be judged by a more harsh yardstick.
PM Modi's defence of Sadhvi is patronising
Hearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's explanation for Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti's hate comments, one wonders if it wouldn't have been better had he remained silent on the matter. "She is new and we are also aware of her social background. She comes from a village," he said in the Lok Sabha today. This is patronising to say the least, as if people from a rural background are more prone to hurling invectives.
Rahul Gandhi must desist from unnecessary antics
With a black band around his mouth, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday joined other opposition leaders in a protest at Parliament against the abusive comments made by Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, an issue that has rocked Parliament all this week. While Trinamool Congress MPs have frequently used quirky means of protest, as vice-president of India's oldest political party, Gandhi should have shown some maturity. He should be deciding the Opposition's strategy in Parliament, not piggy-back on someone else's protest.
