Was Salman waiting to be acquitted to get married?

As we were waiting outside Mumbai's familiar address Galaxy Apartments, the news of the acquittal of the building's famous resident in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case was trickled in and the next question that seemed to loom large over the stratosphere was whether the "Sultan" of Bollywood would finally tie the knot.

Now before we start ridiculing the question and its utter irrelevance in a country which has bigger problems to ponder over, let's jog our memory and answer truthfully how many times we have willingly fallen prey to a headline which has held the promise of decoding and unveiling the love life of the superstar.

Now that we have admitted that the media's dogged perseverance in eliciting an answer from Salman Khan about D-day is directly proportional to the reader's curiosity quotient, let's actually move on to the matter at hand.

Salman's bachelorhood has assumed a place of prime importance over the years and his candid comments to avert the incessant curiosity have invariably made national headlines. When the host of a popular talk show posed the million dollar question way back in 2012, this is what the star had to say:

"I will think about marrying only after the courts give their verdicts. If the verdicts go against me, I will marry only after coming out of jail."

Salman Khan.

But then when have emphatic answers from the superstar ever put a stop to the nosy media haranguing him with the question time and again?

This year when the star fielded questions from the media as the face of a popular awards show, Salman made yet another headline when he proudly announced that he would use his official Twitter handle to announce the end of his singlehood.

Now that Salman has been given the clean chit by the courts of the land in both the hit-and-run and blackbuck poaching cases, it looks like he is now where he exactly wanted to be, as far as mouthing "I do" is concerned, that is.

Salman's chequered past with the ladies, the veracity of which might or might not be questionable, paints a questionable picture of him as the desirable better half.

However, that has never really deprived the superstar from dating some of Hindi cinema's most beautiful women.

Rumour has it that the 50-year-old star is currently dating Romanian TV-host Iulia Vantur. Now that Salman is truly a free man, would he finally say "I do?"

Watch this space as scribes set out on their old mission with renewed energy to get to the truth of the matter.

Shifting focus from the personal to the star's professional life, Bollywood heaved a sigh of collective relief with the star's acquittal in the 18-year-old blackbuck poaching case.

Imagine, Salman, who is second only to Rajinikanth in terms of being the sole star to deliver staggering box office figures, not being able to be Salman in his box office record-shattering spectacles which give millions of his fans the chance to relive the fantasy of being Salman in the dark interiors of the theatre.

His conviction would have in one fell swoop deprived millions of human beings from being influenced by the Being Human star on the silver screen.

That would have spelt disaster with a capital D for the trade.

And then again, the industry has always rallied behind Salman precisely for being an almost one-man industry. At least in the recent past that is.

So to quote a popular Hindi film dialogue, "All Izz Well". If it's not, Salman can always install a plaque in memory of the blackbuck and not to forget the chinkaras, just like he did for his pet dogs. After all, it's all about being human.
