Kiku Sharda's arrest: India doesn't need a Censor Board

Sack Mr Pankaj Nihalani!

Why do we even need a Censor Board in India when all of us are doing the job so well?

I think Mr Shyam Benegal need not be troubled at this stage of his illustrious career when every "aira gaira nathu khaira" is an experienced hand at censure and feigning anger at the way our culture is being tampered with.

After Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan zipped up their mouths in the intolerance saga, it is now the turn of our dear Palak of Comedy Nights with Kapil fame aka Kiku Sharda to feel the heat.

I know for sure that at the Kaithal police station there will not be any requests that normally follow a comic wherever he goes, "Sir, please ek chutkula sunna do?" Poor Dera head Sant Ram Rahim ji. He must be wondering where he's gone wrong. All he was trying was to be the "Messenger of God" in talking about universal brotherhood, love and compassion.

But somehow all that the disciples apparently learnt was intolerance and anger. Probably our religious leaders too need a censor board on what they are trying to teach the ordinary man. A comic is a brave man. A man who makes fun of his shape, size, intellect, dialect, accent to make others laugh. He is probably the only man who doesn't take himself seriously.

And in today's world, he dishes you the most exquisite gift of all-pure laughter.

He is the superhero of today. His place should be in our heart, not in the grim walls of a prison.
