National Solidarity Day in India is an annual tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers during the 1962 war with China. It's a day to honour their dedication to protecting the nation.

India also pays homage to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during this time.

The origin of National Solidarity Day

  • National Solidarity Day in India finds its roots in a historic conflict between India and China.
  • The war commenced on October 20, 1962, and concluded on November 21, 1962.
  • During this war, China launched a surprise attack on India from the northeastern side, aiming to seize control of disputed areas in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Despite the significant loss of Indian soldiers, they displayed unwavering courage until the very end. To commemorate and honour these soldiers, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi established a committee, which designated October 20 as National Solidarity Day in India, a day dedicated to remembering and honoring the sacrifices of our soldiers during this challenging period.

  • The conflict arose due to disputes over borders and territories.
    On October 20, 1962, China launched a powerful assault, resulting in India's defeat and the loss of some of its territories, such as Aksai Chin.
