Who is Shivranjani Tiwari and why does she want to meet Bageshwar Dham's Dhirendra Shastri?

A young woman from Madhya Pradesh’s (MP) Jabalpur has started on a 1,100-km long Kalash Yatra (journey with an earthen pot on her head) from Uttarakhand’s Gangotri to MP’s Gada village of Chhatarpur district, to meet head priest of Bageshwar Dham, Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri.

Yes, you heard it right! In the scorching summer heat, when the temperatures are soaring above 40 degree celsius, the woman, who has completed her MBBS and calls herself a follower of Shastri, has decided to walk to the temple.

She started her journey on May 1, 2023, and in the last few days, she has been in news.

While it is being said that Shivranjani wants to marry Dhirendra Shastri, Shivranjani, in an interview, clarified that she never said that she wants to marry him. Instead, she said that only Pandit Shastri knows what’s in her mind and soon people would also know it.

Who is Shivranjani Tiwari?

She is a medical student who comes from Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur. Tiwari has been attracted to religious scriptures since her childhood and has been singing Bhajans (Hindu folk songs) since the age of 4.

She calls herself a disciple of Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati. However, she only came to notice when she started a foot journey to meet Bageshwar Dham’s head priest, Dhirendra Shastri.

Even Shastri rose to fame in the recent past, when he was seen organizing darbars (public courts) where he would claim to know about a person’s past, without even meeting them. Shastri would roll out a piece of paper, write the past of a person who is sitting in front of him and then ask him to check it.

Tiwar is expected to reach Gada village of MP’S Chhatarpur district on June 16, where she is expected to present the Kalash Jal to Shastri. 

She calls herself a dire follower of  Shastri and says that she would only reveal her intentions on June 16, once she reaches the Bageshwar Dham temple.

Who is Dhirendra Shastri?

Also known as Bageshwar Dham Sarkar, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri is the head priest of Bageshwar Dham temple. 

The self-proclaimed godman, claims to have divine powers, using which he can read people’s past. His Satsangs, where a large number of people show up, have been in the limelight in the recent past.

While many decry Shastri’s ''magical' powers calling him fake, his lakhs of followers outnumber his critics.

He has also received political mileage by showing support for the BJP government.
