Kamaal R Khan, popularly known as KRK, has been arrested in Mumbai by the Malad Police. KRK is often part of controversies because of his tweets and comments on Bollywood. And a few of his tweets from 2020 have now got him arrested. Post his arrest, KRK has now been sent to judicial custody for 14 days by Mumbai's Borivali court.
What were the tweets? KRK was arrested for a few tweets from two years ago.
In 2020, KRK posted two tweets about Bollywood actors Irrfan and Rishi Kapoor, which were, in typical KRK style, in horrible taste. After the tweets, a Yuva Sena member, Rahul Kanal, lodged a complaint against him at Malad police station in 2020.
What the police said: Actor Kamaal R Khan was arrested from Mumbai airport. An FIR was registered against Khan in 2020, and thereafter a lookout notice was issued against him. KRK had posted insulting tweets on late actors Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan, both of whom died in 2020. These tweets were later deleted.
"On April 30, Khan had allegedly taken to Twitter to announce Rishi Kapoor's hospitalisation and tweeted saying that the actor must not die as wine shops were set to open soon," a police officer told PTI.
"We have registered an FIR against Kamal R Khan for making derogatory remarks about both the deceased actors under Section 294 (punishment for obscene acts or words in public) and other provisions of the IPC," the police officer added.
What happened: KRK was detained at the Mumbai airport this morning. He was first questioned and then arrested.
He was presented in Mumbai’s Borivali court today, who sent him to 14 days' judicial custody.
“Kamal Rashid Khan arrested by Malad Police over his controversial tweet in 2020. He was arrested after he landed at Mumbai airport. He will be presented before Borivali court today,” said Mumbai Police, reported ANI.
Who is KRK? Kamaal R Khan, a Bollywood actor who was seen in movies like Deshdrohi and Ek Villain, has had numerous run-ins with Bollywood stars in the past. A self-styled critic, KRK regularly reviews Bollywood movies from Dubai, where he lives. Khan's Twitter account has also been suspended a few times in the past for objectionable posts, after complaints.
