2 men enter Lok Sabha with smoke canisters on Parliament attack anniversary. What we know so far

The Lok Sabha plunged into chaos on December 13, Wednesday afternoon as two intruders breached security and jumped into the House chamber from the public gallery during the zero hour. Initial reports suggest that two men were armed with colour canisters created panic among Members of Parliament (MPs).

Describing the moment, Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Dastidar recounted, "They started shouting slogans, and spraying some gas."

 

What do we know so far?

  • Two of those intruders, one Sagar Sharma, and another Manoranjan were caught from the well of Lok Sabha by the MPs.
  • Both of them were taken to the Parliament Street Police Station after the confiscation of all their belongings.
  • A Lok Sabha visitor pass has been confiscated from Sagar Sharma.

  • Two other individuals who were protesting outside the Parliament, near the Parivahan Bhawan, Neelam (42) and Anmol (25), were also taken into custody. 
  • Anmol and Neelam raised slogans," tanashahi khatam karo" (stop the dictatorship) and "Bharat mata ki Jai" (Glory to Mother India) while being taken to the police station.
  • Neelam clarified, "We do not belong to an organisation."
  • Neelam said that they were students and common citizens and said, did it as their rights were being taken away.

  • Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "Two persons jumped from the public gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber, overpowered by members. The second person, dangling from the public gallery, sprayed some kind of gas, causing eye irritation."

2001 Parliament attack anniversary

  • Coincidentally, the security breach occurred on the anniversary of the infamous 2001 Parliament attack, where armed terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed stormed the Parliament building, killing 9 people.
  • Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun issued a threat to carry out an attack on the Indian Parliament on or before December 13.
