As the 18th G20 Summit approaches, New Delhi is getting ready to ensure a warm welcome for delegates from around the world.
This highly anticipated event will be hosted in the newly constructed Bharat Mandapam located in Pragati Maidan, and it is expected to see the participation of at least 25 heads of state, leaders from global institutions and their delegations.
The summit is scheduled to take place from September 8 to 10, and extensive preparations in view of security and traffic movement are underway.
For commuters planning to use the metro during the summit, the Delhi Police has issued a set of guidelines to ensure secure and smooth movement.
The Supreme Court station (formerly Pragati Maidan), adjacent to Gate no 10 on the Pragati Maidan (that houses the Bharat Mandapam) on Blue Line will be shut from September 8 to 10 during the G20 Summit, according to a fresh notification by the Delhi Police. An earlier notification stated the closure of a bunch of other stations in central Delhi.
Apart from this, DMRC has also identified 39 "sensitive" stations where there could be temporary entry/exit closures depending on the road route taken by the VIP/VVIP convoys.
"There might be closure of gates for 10-15 minutes at stations due to VIP movement and security restrictions. But apart from at Pragati Maidan (Supreme Court), metro services will not be affected at other stations."
- SS Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic)
Metro services on other routes and stations will continue to operate as usual.
DMRC has also put through a list of timings for Metro operations on different lines of the network, including the first and the last train.
All online delivery services, except milk, vegetables, fruits and medicines, will be barred in the 'New Delhi district's controlled zone' during the G20 Summit, reported PTI.
"Essential services such as postal and medical services, and sample collections by path labs will be allowed throughout Delhi. In the New Delhi area, commercial activities will not be allowed. Online delivery services will not be allowed but medicine delivery will be allowed"
- SS Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic)
For individuals travelling to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) between September 7th and September 11th, it is advisable to use the metro for a hassle-free commute.
These cards, available at dedicated counters in 36 metro stations, come in two categories: one-day and three-day validity, offering unlimited rides within the metro network.
The one-day card is priced at Rs 200, while the three-day card costs Rs 500, inclusive of a refundable security deposit of Rs 50.
Traffic movement
The Delhi Traffic Police have released a comprehensive advisory regarding traffic movement during the G20 Summit. Traffic restrictions will be in effect from the night of September 7th through September 11th, ensuring the safety and convenience of all attendees and residents.
