Reliance Industries Chairman, Mukesh Ambani, has received the third death threat in four days, demanding a heavy ransom of Rs 400 crore ($54 million).

The sender of the email wrote, "No matter how good your security is, one sniper of ours can kill you. This time the amount is Rs 400 crore, and the police can’t track and arrest me."

Details

  • The first threatening email was sent on October 27, demanding a ransom of Rs 20 crore. Then the sender increased this amount to Rs 200 crore in the next email.
  • The sender said that he had increased the amount to Rs 400 crore because Ambani did not reply to the first email.
  • Officials said that all the emails were sent from the same ID and that the sender was from Belgium.
  • Officials are now probing the authenticity of the email and working with the cybercrime cell to trace the location of the sender.
  • The police has also made contact with the Belgium officials to trace the sender through his Internet IP address.

FIR lodged

  • The FIR was lodged on the first day, by Ambani’s security in charge at the Gamdevi police station.

  • The FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation).

  • This also isn’t the first time that Ambani has received a death threat.

  • Last year also, the Mumbai police had arrested a man from Bihar’s Darbhanga, for making death threat calls to Mukesh Ambani.
