Man orders iPhone 15 from Apple website, gets android in disguise

A man named Ed from Surrey, England, was all excited to unbox his brand-new iPhone 15 Pro, only to realise that it was a sneaky fake iPhone running on Android.

Not Amazon or Flipkart or any other third party app; Ed ordered the iPhone directly through Apple's official website.

What

  • A guy named Ed, who lives in Surrey, England, and uses the name theEdmard on Reddit, shared his fake iPhone story.
  • He ordered an iPhone 15 Pro from the real Apple store, but what he got was totally unexpected.
  • The package didn't have the iPhone he wanted; instead, it had a fake phone that looks a whole lot like an iPhone but runs on Android.

Ed narrated the whole story on his Reddit post.

He even posted pictures on his Imgur gallery, pointing out details like an unconventional screen protector and a screen that did not exhibit typical OLED characteristics, which led him to the discovery: the phone was an android.

  • First, it had a screen protector; something real iPhones usually don't have.
  • Next, there was a noticeable "chin" on the display, which real iPhones don't have either.
  • Plus, it came with apps like Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok already installed, which Apple doesn't do.

Ed, who works at AtWrk, a cloud software company, quickly reached out to Apple to fix the problem, but they haven't responded yet. To prove he really ordered from Apple, Ed showed his order confirmation page with the order number, but the issue is still not resolved.

Ed noticed a screen protector that didn't fit the phone properly, the fake iPhone's glitchy and weird-looking imitation of iOS, and signs that the phone had been used before, like info in the battery settings.

Even though Apple usually sends out lots of iPhones every month, this situation is different. The fake Android phone in this scam works really well and tricks people into giving their iCloud info, which is risky for their data.
