IndiGo's parent company, InterGlobe, is teaming up with Archer Aviation for a game-changing project. Picture this: zip from Connaught Place, New Delhi to Gurugram in just 7 mins via an electric air taxi.

The collaboration plans to kickstart this futuristic air taxi service by 2026, promising quick, eco-friendly trips that'll revolutionise urban travel.

What

  • Pending regulatory approvals, this collaboration aims to redefine urban transportation with a safe, eco-friendly, and quiet electric air taxi service.
  • Targeting a launch by 2026, the initiative seeks to introduce eVTOLs (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft), known for their environmental friendliness and low noise levels.

How it operates

  • The proposed service will commence in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, utilizing an initial fleet of 200 eVTOLs.
  • Leveraging Archer's Midnight aircraft, a four-passenger electric VTOL designed for swift flights with minimal charging time.
  • The projected travel time from Delhi to Gurugram, typically 60 to 90 minutes by car, would be reduced to just 7 minutes in these air taxis.

Goals and collaborations

  • The primary aim is to expedite travel, particularly cutting down the Connaught Place to Gurugram journey drastically.
  • The MOU was signed by Rahul Bhatia, Group Managing Director of InterGlobe, and Nikhil Goel, Chief Commercial Officer of Archer.
  • The partnership involves local business collaborations to oversee aircraft management, develop vertiport infrastructure, and train personnel, including pilots.

Securing funding for up to 200 of Archer's Midnight aircraft dedicated to operations in India is part of the initiative.
