Roasting is an occupation these days and social media is the workplace. And we have a National Roast Day too. Thanks to Wendy’s, a fast-food restaurant chain that invented this in 2018. This year, National Roast Day was observed on January 12. The day is dedicated to nothing but roasting on Twitter. But only Wendy’s is allowed to roast folks.
WORLD ROAST DAY FORMAT:
Basically, Wendy’s puts out a tweet a day before the roast day, a day that is picked by the brand. In the tweet, Wendy’s asks other brands and Twitter users to line up to get roasted by Wendy’s. The roast is quite sarcastic and humorous at the same time; you know, in tune with the meaning of the word roast. While many of them are loved by Twitter users, others get backlash for being rude.
Wendy's asks people and other brands to volunteer rather than picking anyone randomly, keeping in mind the consent of the roastee. This helps keep a war of words at bay.
The game gets really interesting when other known brands volunteer to get roasted.
HOW THE ROAST DAY BEGAN
In December 2016, Wendy’s posted that they use only fresh beef for their food. In January 2017, someone named @NHride called out the brand and said that the beef used by Wendy's is frozen. And the conversation went on and on. The admin of Wendy’s Twitter account roasted the user to the level that he deactivated his account.
After a year, the food chain brand declared it National Roast Day and wrote:
SOME OF THE BEST ONES:
During Roast Day this year, Wendy's gave some of the best punches. Here are some of them:
1. FOR HOT WHEELS
2. TARGETED THE PINK TAX ISSUE QUITE WELL IN GILLETTE'S CASE
3. ONE FOR UBER EATS
4. WENDY'S IS A LITTLE HARD ON OTHER FOOD BRANDS, JUST LIKE THIS ONE
5. MONSTER DRINK IS ALSO IN LINE
6. THIS ONE FOR OREO ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE
7. TOYOTA, WHY ARE YOU IN THIS LINE?
Wendy's has a Roast Day every year; except for 2020, when the pandemic began. Wendy's declared a Roast Day on May 29, 2020, but later decided to drop it for 'better times'.
