After India lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final to Australia, Indian captain Rohit  Sharma, shared his thoughts about the game for the first time in a candid video posted on Mumbai Indians' official X account.

The video provides clear insights into his plans for the future.

World Cup defeat’s toll on Rohit Sharma

  • In the video, Rohit honestly shared, how tough it was to accept the defeat.
"It wasn't easy to digest, but life moves on. You have to move on in life. But, honestly, it was tough. It was not so easy to just move on."
- Rohit Sharma in the video.
  • This genuine admission gives fans a glimpse into the cricketing icon's raw emotions and the toll the loss took on him.
  • Rohit, who experienced a remarkable World Cup as both captain and batter, until the final, was visibly emotional as he left the field after the game.
  • He subsequently travelled to England for a respite, seeking relief from the emotional strain.
  • Rohit wasn't sure if he could get past the World Cup final disappointment. Yet, the love and support from fans have "motivated" him to strive for another shot at the “ultimate prize”.
“For me to see, people coming up to me, telling me that they were proud of the team, made me feel good. Along with them, I was healing as well. I felt, okay these are the kind of things you want to hear,”
- Rohit said in the video.

The ultimate prize?

  • Though Rohit didn't specify the "ultimate prize" he's referring to, it seems plausible that he's eyeing the leadership role for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA next year.
  • However, some fans even think that the chances to see Rohit Sharma feature in the T20 World Cup seem very low, with him choosing to be on a  break from T20 internationals since the 2022 T20 World Cup.
  • Rohit's most probable “ultimate prize” could be the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, which is to be hosted by Pakistan.
  • He also expressed his frustration about not winning the 50-over World Cup but passionately talked about the dream.
  • He praised the excellent performance of the World Cup squad as well.
"I am pretty sure how we played up until that final would have given people a lot of joy, a lot of pride watching the team play."
- Rohit Sharma on Team India's performance in the ODI World Cup 2023.
