Renfield trailer is out and Nicholas Cage is Dracula. You read that right.

Never thought you would live to see the day Nic Cage donned the Transylvanian Count's cape, did you? Universal Pictures' upcoming vampire flick, Renfield, looks to change that up.

There has been a lot of buzz lately about the upcoming Nicholas Cage adaptation of the classic horror character Renfield from Bram Stoker's Dracula. Renfield, a disturbed man who becomes a servant to Count Dracula, has been played by numerous actors in the past, but this new interpretation promises to be unlike any other. The upcoming horror comedy is set in the modern day and follows Renfield as he navigates his way through the world of vampires and supernatural creatures.

Count Dracula's lackey Renfield, played by Nicholas Hoult, finds a new lease on life in modern day New Orleans when he falls in love with Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina), a feisty but perennially aggressive traffic cop.

Renfield is a complex character who is struggling with his own demons and trying to find his place in the world. He is torn between his love for a human woman and his desire to live forever as a vampire. The film explores the struggles that Renfield faces as he tries to reconcile his two worlds and the consequences of his actions while simultaneously dealing with his bloodthirsty boss.

Marking his first major studio role since 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the inclusion of Cage in the cast has already generated a lot of excitement and anticipation among horror fans. His unique acting style and ability to embody complex, deranged characters make him a perfect fit for the role.

Known for his eccentric and over-the-top performances, it certainly looks like Cage will be bringing more of the same energy to his take on the king of vampires. If his portrayal is anywhere near as unhinged and unpredictable as the brief glimpse we get in the trailer, Cage could potentially add a level of chaos and danger to the character unlike ever seen before.

Directed by Chris McKay and written by Ryan Ridley, a major source of inspiration for the tone of the film were along the lines of Taika Waititi’s FX horror comedy series, What We Do In The Shadows. 

One of the most interesting aspects of this adaptation is the decision to set it in modern times. While many Renfield adaptations have stuck to the Victorian era setting of the original novel, this version will bring the character into the 21st century. It will be interesting to see how the character's descent into madness and servitude to Dracula translates to a contemporary setting.

Renfield has the potential to be a standout entry in the classic monster horror genre. With a fresh, modern setting and the always-compelling presence of Cage, this adaptation is sure to be a wild ride for fans of the classic character and horror fans alike.
