If you know who are Ned Fulmer, Ariel and Alex Herring, I'm sorry (including for myself) that things have come to this stage. The reason why you know them is social media.
First, here's a brief on what the story is and who said what.
Who are the Try Guys? You would know about the Try Guys if you ever had a Buzzfeed phase in the 2010s. It is an uber-popular YouTube channel called Try Guys with 7.8 million subscribers. The title of the channel pretty much sums up what they do.
There are… or were… four main guys in the Try Guys -
Now they are down one guy.
But why? Try Guys recently announced that they are no longer working with one of its core members, Ned Fulmer. The announcement came as rumours were swirling on the internet that Fulmer cheated on his wife Ariel with a co-worker, Alex (Alexandria) Herring.
What they are saying: Ned Fulmer issued a statement following Try Guys' announcement acknowledging that he did indeed have a "consensual workplace relationship" while being married.
Ariel Fulmer, Ned's wife, said that currently,
Alex Herring hasn't said anything, as of yet.
Why is this news? So, some YouTuber cheated on his wife.
It's because we live in the 21st century, where YouTubers are celebrities.
Ned Fulmer's popularity and fame have come out of monetising his very real life and his family.
If you don't believe watching other people's very normal life can be interesting, check out the 4.8 million views on Ned and Ariel's house tour or Ariel's first mammogram.
Ariel has also appeared on the Try Guys several times.
How it all came crashing down: Ned Fulmer's cheating scandal was unravelled by a few Reddit users, who posted a video of him dancing with a woman and kissing her, who was allegedly not his wife.
Since Fulmer's personal and professional lives were inseparable, it is no wonder then that his personal scandal affected the Try Guys. It's not like a celebrity cheating scandal because an actor is usually playing a different character in movies; unlike the YouTubers, who play themselves.
Ned was a 'Wife Guy': With regards to the way Ned often referred to his wife, there's a term on the internet for the category of men; it's called the Wife Guys.
A Wife Guy is a man whose persona and branding are based on the fact that he's in love with the woman he married. For example: Ryan Reynolds, John Legend, Shah Rukh Khan, etc.
They place their wives on a pedestal and their hobby is to never shut up about how married they are.
They are the men whose Twitter/Instagram bios read "@JaneDoe's husband", "father", etc.
In the background: Ned Fulmer's cheating scandal comes right after another well-known Wife Guy; a musician, Adam Levine's embarrassing texts to model Sumner Stroh were leaked. Levine is married to Victoria's secret model Behati Prinsloo.
What happens to Try Guys and Ned Fulmer? It is largely unknown what happens between the Try Guys and Ned Fulmer going forward.
Moral of the story, perhaps, is to not overshare on social media.
