Buckle up, because Michael Mann's upcoming Ferrari biopic is revving up to be a blend of tire-squealing action and heartstring-tugging drama. Set against the backdrop of the summer of 1957, this film isn't just about cars; it's about the man, the myth, the legend - Enzo Ferrari, played by Adam Driver, who seems to have a knack for stepping into the shoes of wealthy Italian businessmen.

Produced by Neon, the upcoming biopic looks to be a riveting blend of high-speed racing sequences and poignant family drama. The film, based on Brock Yates' book Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Races, The Machine, centres around the summer of 1957, a pivotal time for Enzo Ferrari, the ex-Formula 1 racer who transformed the Ferrari name into an iconic brand.

The film’s first teaser promises adrenaline-pumping racing sequences that will satisfy even the most dedicated car aficionados. But, hold your horses (or rather, Ferraris), because the film isn't just about crossing finish lines - it's about Enzo's personal finish lines too. Have a look:

The narrative delves into Enzo Ferrari's personal and professional struggles during this critical period. Portrayed by Adam Driver, Ferrari faces financial turmoil as the company grapples with bankruptcy and copes with the loss of his son.

Penélope Cruz plays his wife Laura, and Shailene Woodley takes on the role of his mistress Lina Lardi. Amid the backdrop of the Formula 1 races capturing public attention, Enzo's emotional journey takes centre stage as he attempts to salvage his company while navigating a fractured family.

Adam Driver's portrayal of Enzo Ferrari follows his recent role in Ridley Scott's House of Gucci, demonstrating his versatility in embodying Italian aristocrats. In Ferrari, Driver steps into the shoes of an automobile magnate facing challenges that extend beyond the racetrack.

This isn't Driver's first venture into the world of racing, as evidenced by his appearances at the Indy 500 and in films like Logan Lucky. However, Ferrari marks a unique turn in his career, immersing him in the life of Enzo Ferrari during the crucial 1957 period as the titular owner’s preparations for the "Mille Miglia" race across Italy, a significant event that also plays a role in the film's narrative.

Enzo's personal struggles and the aftermath of an accident that led to charges of manslaughter contribute to the multifaceted storyline.

Beyond Driver's front face, the film boasts a talented supporting cast including Patrick Dempsey, Jack O'Connell, Sarah Gadon, Gabriel Leone, and Erik Haugen round out the ensemble, contributing to the portrayal of historical events and the lead-up to the tragic accident involving Alfonso de Portago and Edmund Nelson.

Mann's direction promises a captivating exploration of Enzo Ferrari's journey, balancing emotional depth with the allure of vintage cars speeding through the picturesque Italian landscape.

The film's premiere at the Venice Film Festival has generated anticipation, fueled by the unveiling of the gripping trailer.

Ferrari hits theatres on Christmas 2023.
