The 74th Primetime Emmys have finally come to a close. With a whole bunch of expected winners and quite a few surprises across categories, here is a complete list of winners and where we went wrong with our predictions.
In case you missed our predictions, here’s all three parts of our Emmys 2022 predictions:
1. Emmy Predictions Part 1 Drama: Squid Game, Succession, Severance?
2. Emmy Predictions Part 2 Comedy: Ted Lasso, Abbott Elementary, Barry?
3. Emmy Predictions Part 3 Limited Series: The White Lotus, Dopesick, The Dropout?
DRAMA:
Outstanding Drama Series:
Succession
Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series
Squid Game, "Red Light, Green Light,"
Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series:
Succession, "All the Bells Say,"
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series:
Zendaya, Euphoria
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series:
Lee Jung-jae, Squid Game
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series:
Julia Garner, Ozark
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:
Matthew Macfayden, Succession
Predicted: 5/7
What we got wrong:
Despite Succession and Squid Game’s dominance across the board as frontrunners, we still expected Severance to not go home empty handed and Directing seemed the perfect category to award the series. It seems the TV Academy thought otherwise.
Having won two consecutive Emmys for Supporting Actress, Julia Garner seemed to be an unlikely winner this year, with Succession’s Sarah Snook shaping to be the obvious choice. Third time’s the charm though according to the TV Academy.
COMEDY:
Outstanding Comedy Series:
Ted Lasso
Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series:
Ted Lasso, "No Weddings and a Funeral,"
Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series:
Abbott Elementary, "Pilot,"
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:
Jean Smart, Hacks
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series:
Jason Sudeikis, Ted Lasso
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series:
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Abbott Elementary
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series:
Brett Goldstein, Ted Lasso
Predicted: 2/7
What we got wrong:
The comedy series predictions fell apart for us as the frontrunner Abbott Elementary seemed to have gone home having secured only a single win.
Last year's winner, Ted Lasso, seemed to have plowed its way through the comedy nominations in similar fashion.
The only surprise (and that too not particularly unexpected) seemed to be Jean Smart winning Lead Actress over Quinta Brunson; a win that perhaps seemed justified as Brunson won for Writing instead.
LIMITED:
Outstanding Limited series:
The White Lotus
Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series:
The White Lotus
Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series:
The White Lotus
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series:
Amanda Seyfried, The Dropout
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series:
Michael Keaton, Dopesick
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series:
Jennifer Coolidge, The White Lotus
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series:
Murray Bartlett, The White Lotus
Predicted: 7/7
What we got wrong:
One of the rare instances where we would rather have been wrong than have The White Lotus absolutely sweep the limited series category. Sigh.
